@HisBrownEyedGirl:  That is exactly what we’re doing.  We definitely wanted someone we knew to marry us and one of his groomsmen offered.  It actually works out great because the groomsman who offered is actually the guy that caused my FI and I to be introduced.  He is taking the whole thing very seriously and making the ceremony personal to us using the ceremony and vows written by my FI (and approved by me.)  He will stand up as a groomsman and once I am standing next to my FI at the aisle, he will step over to serve as the officiant.

@HisBrownEyedGirl:  We’re doing it because there’s something special about having sommeone who actually knows the two of you marry you.  It provides an intimacy rather than having a unknown person struggle over your names and do nothing to make the ceremony unique.

@renwoman:  Our GM/Officiant begged to add quotes from movies like The Matrix and Bill & Ted.  We made him limit it to 3 short ones and thankfully they actually flow with the ceremony quite well.  Only die hard fans (like my FI and his GMs) will even catch on.

I would just have all of the groomsmen pre-placed at the altar when you and the girls walk down. The groomsmen can be standing next to your FI and step to the officiant position when you are ready to start.

@HisBrownEyedGirl:  I dont think it will look bad or out of place. I think its an awesome idea. Dont worry about it!

@beachbride1216:  Bill & Ted? That’s pretty awesome! My FI made me watch that movie — now, I will never see Keanu the same way in the Matrix.

@HisBrownEyedGirl:  This is pretty neat to have someone you know ordained and be your officiant! 🙂 If I were a guest, I would find it rather unique personal touch to the bride & groom. (Hope that’s a bonus reassurance)

I’ve seen wedding videos where all the groomsmen walk up and line up, then the one doing the “marrying” just pipes in from where hes standing. It looked perfect! I wish I could have one of my friends marry us!

Sorry- I don’t have the link.
