I have a moissanite and love it! Have only had it two months now, but many women here have had theirs a long time and love it. And, you can get an Amora Moissy.. Here is a pic of mine!

There’s a couple good threads on here about Amora.  I believe one Bee sent hers back because it did not look as she had hoped.  I believe brilliant earth sells lab created diamonds, which have the same composition as a diamond, but were obviously created in a lab rather than down in the earth.  🙂  Moissonite is also an option.  It is a lab created gem (well, I think it is extememly rare in nature and all of it is now created in a lab).  I have moissy earrings and I think they are beautiful.  They do refelct color and change colors depending on the light.  They look different than a diamond but are lovely in and of themselves.  I think if you want a clear stone, you might be better off with a lab created diamond?

I’m pretty sure Gemisis is one of the only (if not only) company in the US creating actual diamonds in the lab that are of jewelry grade. I researched a lot about this because I figured a diamond is a diamond. What I discovered is that the company didn’t make the size I was looking for so that’s a bummer but I also discovered that the amount of energey that it takes to create the diamonds especially the larger sizes (I don’t think at this point they can make higher than a 1.5) costs so much that while the diamonds are cheaper they are not significantly cheaper. Not sure if that’s what you meant by manmade though.

Here is their website:

B rilliant Earth also offers lab created ones.  I did a quick search.  they look about the same price as natural, but if OP had ethical reasons for wanting a lab created stone, this could be an options.  These apparently look like diamonds (since they are)…Moissanite looks different than a diamond.  Pretty but different 🙂

Mrs.Sawyertobe:  I think those are Gemisis stones and Brilliant Earth is just retailing them because when I was searching I found a bunch of news articles about Gemisis and one other company which doesn’t do any selling directly to consumers being the only 2 in the country. Also, Brilliant Earth’s stones typically seem to be the same ones that Gemisis also has on their website lol (but I’ll admit I haven’t checked in awhile). I didn’t mean Gemisis was the only retailer, just creator. Apparently they look so much like real diamonds (since they are real diamonds) that GIA has had to create new machines to detect and Gemisis has to laser inscribe them with LG (lab grown) or LC (lab created) I forget which letters they use. But yes if it is an ethical reason then that is definitely an option!

Oh and the detection was sometimes that the diamonds were of TOO GOOD quality! I wish I could remember where I read that article to post it.

I’m one of the bees that sent back her Amora Gem. I sent it back because it didn’t have the sparkle of diamonds, and it has a bizarre quality of fire. It was like the light moved slowly through the stone and made it glisten.

I wrote a long post about it here, and an interesting discussion followed: http://bit.ly/P5Zrmy

When are you looking to get engaged? If you can wait until 2015, I think more products will be out, like C&C’s H&A cut moissanite. And who knows, maybe the Amora Gem will get improved so it has better sparkle and optics by then.

I have a moissanite Ering from moissanitejewelryshop.com. It is gorgeous and I love it. It has a moissy center stone and diamond halo – and tricked the girl at Helzberg the other day!

I took it get sized (finally…6 months after I’m MARRIED) and they promised the pave stones wouldn’t fall out…got it back Friday…stone fell out today!! It’s getting fixed again now. Not really relevant to the simulant discussion but I’m still upset. But I love moissy and am so happy we chose it.
