technically I think a boat or “bateau” neckline is the shallow & wide neckilne where the “straps/sleeves” are still ON the shoulder – somewhat like your first photo. (in shirts with this cut you can sometimes get away with a regular bra if you push the straps out to the shoulderblades depending on the width of the cut)

the second photo is off the shoulder, which is not the same…and I would probably also catagorize the third photo as the same…not sure if there’s a fancy name, would love to know.. or heck, maybe these are also lumped in with boat…

They’re different. It’s a boat neck if it’s on the shoulder, I think. Off the shoulder, it’s just off the shoulder. Why don’t you send her the picture?

ooh I just read something on this in a book on vintage weddings… it IS called “off the shoulder” if it is all the way off the shoulder, or a “portrait neckline” if its not quite all the way off.
