If you want to give gifts, you can treat it like a baby shower and just bring a cute little thing for the baby, but a card would be totally fine. I’ve been to several baptisms where very few to no gifts were exchanged.

Like any event, a gift shoudn’t be expected.  Generally, at least where I’m from, any $ the child receives at the baptism would be used to establish a savings fund for the child, it’s not for the parents. At the very least you should bring a card. If you can comfortably afford it, I’d give the child some money as well. I wouldn’t worry about the amount looking small as I hope no one would judge you for the value of a gift.

I’ve been to a ton of baptisms.  Usually I give the medal of saint the child is named after (usually the middle name) You could go the money route usually about $30.00, but i wouldn’t give an outfit.  It’s not a shower for baby items.  You could give a silver frame so they can put a pictures from the day in it.  I just try to give a little something that won’t get tossed away since it’s a special time.

$50-$100 should be enough, depending how close you are with the family

We just had our baby baptised and even though I said no gifts, family decided to give him stuff. To give you an idea, 4 people bought him super cute clothes; 1 got him a fancy baby’s 1st year picture frame, 1 got him a $100 Amazon card and others gave cash. The amounts were between $100 and $400.

For baptisms, I always give something that is “religious” in nature… as it is a religious occasion. Like HisIrishPrincess posted, a saint medal is appropriate. I’ve also given a keepsake children’s Bible or The Lord’s Prayer in a pretty frame.
