@Stace126:  as someone currently in undergrad who does the fafsa every year.. (actually my parents do it) most schools fafsa is due March 1 for priority consideration (i.e-if you want the most money). it is something done in the spring semester after you get your w9 forms back from your job sometime in late january (depending on your job). changing it now would do nothin for you this year. you cant reapply for aid until the top of next year

from what i gather the lady was trying to say to change it for the next academic year 2014-2015.. bcus the aid for this year 2013-2014 has already been processed.

fafsa is subjective, you can make little to no money and they still wont give you any. he likely would have gotten more money had he applied earlier (by march) and not during the summer bcus now all the money is gone bcus other students have already put their forms in.

hate to say it, but thats what scholarships and outside loans are for, as far as covering the rest of the money. the government is goin to give you what they think you owe based on your EFC (expected family contribution) after that it falls on you and they DONT GIVE A DAMN. hope it works out.

ETA: i don’t know if the fafsa for attending Kaplan online is a similar process…

@Stace126:  yea im not sure, he needs to go back and log online at the fafsa website and see what grant money/loan money he was eligible for and the EFC he received…sorry i cant be much help. i go to a traditional state school where everyone applies in the early spring.
