we are going with swingy standards, possibly instrumental so there are no creepy words!
We're doing "You are the Best Thing" by Ray LaMontagne. It's got an up beat tempo.
Do you have brown eyes? Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison (or Jimmy Buffett since it's at the beach) could be a good F/D dance song. Just ignore the line about being "behind the stadium with you"!
that line is kind of creepy.... esp for a father daughter dance. I go back and forth on nixing the parent dances alltogether but his mom would take it personally. are there any songs that make you think of your dad?
my FI and I picked van morrison "crazy Love" for the first dance because all the time he tells me that I'm crazy and that is why he loves me. even though it could be interpreted kind of creepy.
Kiss me and Love Story seem like they might be harder to dance to, but I've never tried it, so maybe you should do some practice runs before you pick a song.
What about God Only Knows by the Beach Boys? This could be the father/daughter or your first dance.
Me and my dad danced to Tupelo Honey by Van Morrison.
Also, there are some great Beatles songs, or Sweet Pea by Amos Lee.
hahaah that's a good idea about the instrumentals, no creepy words lol.
Or maybe an old song like 50's or 60's???
Daughter by Loudon Wainwright

LOVE this song.

LOVE this song.
for your first dance, u could dance to 'i'm yours' by jason mraz..we might dance to that=)
I'm not particularly close with my Dad from my point of view, but for whatever reason he is very attached to me. Whenever there is something emotional, he cries. The idea of having my Dad, who i'm kind of blaze about in general, bawling at my wedding and going on and on about how wonderful I am makes me... Eh, lets just say I'm not into it.
My only great memories of my Dad are from when I was really little (think up to about age 8). He introduced me to my love for music, and particularly classic rock. A few years ago when my brother married his wife, my Dad and I danced to Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock N Roll" during their reception - it was this completely spontaneous moment and every single person stopped and watched us just absolutely rock the dance floor. I knew then that is what we would be doing on my wedding day too. :)
I'm actually fairly close with my dad, but he is a BAWLER! I am very sensitive, was always a crier as a kid, and since high school, have been completely averse to public displays of emotion. I am soooo uncomfortable with the thought of my dad sobbing all over the place to some sappy F/D dance song (he will be all squishy anyway but I don't want to encourage it). I was thinking of using "59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin Groovy)" by Simon and Garfunkel. It's also really short. :)
For Father/Daughter songs I think offbeatbride is the best place to go for the non-cheese.

13 pages of suggestions! I think it's a winner and if we were doing a father/daughter dance that's totally where I'd look.
I'm considering "I'm Yours" too! But I was afraid the lyrics might be too weird. IDK.
My dad and I are dancing to "Daughters" by Loudon Wainwright and I looove it...not creepy @ all :)
"When I See You Smile!" Sorry, I love that song... I don't think I'll do a father/daughter, but I want a fun song for the first dance- maybe Hall and Oates "You Make My Dreams Come True." I just want to have fun.
Well, we ended up using "isn't she lovely"....it was nice and upbeat
My dad and I are doing "Lullabye" by Billy Joel. Because my dad really, really hates to dance, I needed something slow.
This song is great because it's sweet and classic without being overly mush.
My DJ just sent me this list (actually a list for Mother/Son but probably could be used for Father Daughter).

I really don't want to dance a cheesy dance with anyone in public (fiance or dad)...lol I'm sort of embarrassed about being in front of crowds. And I do NOT want to get emotional cuz I have the worst ugly cry-face.
What do you think about "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer or "Love Story" by Taylor Swift for first dance? Or do you have any suggestions for other songs that aren't really slow.
And what's a good song for father/daughter, since first dance is not going to be slow and cheesy. So far the only one I sort of like is "I Hope You Dance", but that's still a little on the emotion-provoking side. Anyone have upbeat suggestions? Maybe a Spanish song? an 80's song? I'm drawing a blank on this one...
(It's a beach wedding if that makes any difference)
