I have no idea what the timeline should be for our Cake and Champagne reception, and the DJ needs the timeline this friday!
The ceremony is from 1-1:45 and is about 10-15 min away from the reception site. We have the reception hall from 2-6pm. Other than fruit trays, there is no food (other than the cake). SO…how do we do this? When should we do what? We will have: our first dance, the mother/son, father/daughter dances, and the cake cutting obviously…and the BM and MOH want to give toasts, as well.
Please help me! I have no idea what to do…has anyone else had this kind of reception before?
ps – we will have to do some pics after the ceremony, before we get to the reception since FI and I are doing the whole “not seeing each other day of” thing.

I’d say, go with something like this:
2:00-3:00 pm = Greet guests, thank them for coming, etc.
3:00 pm = Cut cake
After that, toasts, and then dancing from maybe 4-6.
Be aware also that since your reception does cover part of some people’s normal dinner time, you might have guests leaving early.

With only fruit trays and cake I’m not sure you’ll have enough going on to keep people there for 4 hours. If it were me I would definitely get hungry and head out early. I think as soon as people are settled and everyone has arrived you should be announced and go right into your first dance. Following the first dance I would go over to the cake and have your MOH/BM do their toasts while you are by the cake, and then when they are finished you cut the cake. Then go into your parent dances while the cake is being cut and served. Normally when people do pictures after the ceremony they have a cocktail hour with appetizers and and bar.. since you won’t have that available I think you two need to get right to the reception and get things started. Since your reception will go at the latest until 6pm I would recommend you do pictures at the end of the evening.. just an idea.
