@Corykru: Also, any ideas for cakes that are more "traditional" are greatly appreciated.....I am so lost...... Apparently I am not as traditional as I thought LOL. IDK what a traditional cake looks like.
Ours was about as simple as you can get, but was amazingly delicious! (Unfortunately, our florist forgot the flowers on top...oh well).
Would your Mom be okay with a traditional looking white cake with a few white shaped leaves?
Ours was just plain white buttercream with an etched gold ribbon around it and orchids cascading.

Ours was pretty traditional, and the colors can be easily altered:

I haven't gotten married yet, but these are my inspiration pictures.
These were some inspiration photos we had if it helps too:

Here is my cake. It was actually strawberry and chocolate on the inside and if the feathers were removed it is quite traditional....

The top layer (removed in this picture) was vanilla. Everyone still compliments on the different flavors of the cake.

Here's mine.
@reinab505: I had almost exactly the same inspiration pics as you :)
Eeek. Sorry. I posted the same one twice. Here's the other one that I liked.
Thank you so much everyone for posting! I am very appreciative :-). The hive is a great place! I will definitely show her these cakes. I am lucky to have 279 (yikes) days until our wedding LOL. Hopefully we will find the right cake soon.....
Here is ours, it was pretty basic with a little color added via the ribbons at the bottom of every tier.
Here's a picture of ours. Simple, but I liked it.

This is the picture that I took to the baker. I will be having a purple layer instead of the green in the middle. There won't be any roses between the first and second layer, and I will have purple flowers at the top.

We didn't like the idea of spending so much money on a cake, so we did this little one just to cut (I think it was a 6in and 10in layers) and actually served sheet cake from costco. Since it doesn't sound like the cake is important to you, you might consider doing a small cake to cut and serving sheet cake too! The costco cake actually tasted WAY better than this one (my mom picked it out since we weren't local) and 3 sheet cakes that fed 50 people each cost less total than this little cake.
We had petit fours instead--cost-effective AND tasty. My mother kind of wanted a white cake, so we compromised and had some white, some black. All were delicious. :)
what does your mom think traditional is? all of these cakes shown above are technically traditional by today's standards but I get the feeling that when your mom says traditional she is thinking of the big 1980's wedding cakes with swag, staircases, fancy decorations, fountains, and full bridal party figurines on the cake. you may want to clarify with her what she is thinking.
@amariem25: lol....yeah....she was an 80's bride and likes anything 80's :-P. I am trying to find something that meshes our tastes. Lets see how well that works lol.....
Thank you again everyone :-). I am honestly so grateful that you were willing to share the cakes/cake inspirations with me. She and I are looking at the cakes and we are finding common trends that we both are liking from the thread. Once we have a better understanding of what we both "like" I will post some inspiration pics that is a representation of everything.
@BrooklynBride10: Beautiful cake :-). Could you please tell me where you got your crystal strands? That is one of the first things we both mutually liked after seeing your cake LOL. Never thought I would see the day we are agreeing on this. It has been a constant struggle....
Although I have not started planning a wedding, I have always wanted a non-traditional cake. I love the topsy-turvey style with exaggerated detailing!
I'm not sure ours was "traditional." However, it was all white, except for some freeze-dried rose petals scattered on and around it.
@Corykru: Haven't gotten married yet but here is the cake I intend to have. My FH is military so will only have a two week window to get married and a month advance notice. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to have the cake of my dreams then I found this... My BF is making the swag up in silk ahead of time so I can totally have a rocking cake!
Im sure it can be done in fall colors.
Sorry I can't copy and paste it but worth checking out!

Hey there everyone.....
I am crestfallen :-(. Every wedding cake that FI and I pick out are rejected by my mother. My grandmother just informed me that my mom wants a "traditional" white wedding cake. I don't personally like those.....but I will compromise with my mother. Could you please show me your cake? I wanted something with a fall theme, but she hates that idea. Honestly, IDC about the cake.....it is not a big detail to me. I just want to find something my mother accepts at this point. I don't even care if I like it lol.
Sigh.......I need some help!
Thank you in advance........
