Djacks88:  Hopefully they’ll be understanding of the circumstances, it’s not like you were actually using the cell phone.  *HUGS* sorry you’re dealing with such a rough situation 🙁

Djacks88:  I would think that your extenuating circumstances would weigh in your favor 🙂  Have you explained your side of things to the supervisor?

omg that’s terrible. Sorry for your loss, first of all.

I really hope your employer understands this is not your usual behavior but that you were not being yourself because of the recent events.

I really hope they’re understanding and maybe just give you a warning or a disciplinary letter or something.

Depending on the employment laws in your country, I don’t even know if it would be legal to fire you based on this one mishap.

Fingers crossed! hang in there.

I can only speak of employment practices here in the UK but I would be surprised if you could be fired for one breach of discipline caused entirely by mitigating circumstances. As you say, you weren’t even on the production floor so clearly no security has been breached.

Hopefully the worst you’ll get is a verbal or first written warning but are you in a union? If so I strongly suggest you seek their help.

Djacks88:  Best of luck. I’ve been fired in an equally unfortunate experience. It was miserable but I found the job I have now and love six months later and couldn’t be happier. I believe everything happens for a reason. Just keep your head up no matter what. “Inch by inch life’s a cinch…”

Oh my God–I’m so sorry for your loss and now for this! I would think they would not fire you for such a trivial thing. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and hope everythig works out for you!
