I think the ball rooms look pretty similar.  That is a harsh penalty for cancelling 8 months out!  It just says they reserve the right to charge those fees.  Can you talk to them and see if they will let you out of the contract?

MultiCat:  For the venue it’s true that the top one does look lighter, but you don’t know if they were taken at the same time of day. What time is your reception? If it’s dark outside anyway, then the rooms become practically the same!

What is your colour scheme? I think the blue carpet is much nicer than the brown one.

And for the bedrooms, IMO the first one is a bit kitsch with that floral wallpaper, I think the second place is much cosier and more stylish.

Convinced?? 😉 (I believe everything I said btw, not just trying to make you feel better!)

why don’t you call or visit your current venue and let them know that you’re very unhappy with their lack of communication, loss of your deposit, shoddy contract etc and basically level with them – we’d like to cancel our event, i know what your contract says, but under the circumstances (see above) we’d like you to keep only the deposit and we’ll both move on. see what they say – it can’t hurt.

MultiCat:  Your contract sounds really dodgy, no clear info about what’s included, but that harsh pricing should you choose to cancel. If you’re not reassured by the second visit, see what they say about cancelling.

I agree with PP. They haven’t proven that they’re on top of their end of the contract so it wouldn’t hurt to have a talk with them. There may be no way to get out of it, but if you sit down and state clearly that you want them to get their shit together then maybe you’ll end up being happier with the current venue.

For the sake of talking you out of it, it seems like a “grass is greener” situation. You didn’t like the second one as much and then the service has been less than stellar so you’re thinking your original venue idea would be better. It may not be.

Regardless, definitely talk to the current venue and let them know that you’re paying them a lot of money and putting a lot of trust into them with this silly contract they have so they better put forth their effort to cater to you the way they should.
