...BUT IT'S VERY ANNOYING WHEN PEOPLE ALWAYS TYPE IN ALL CAPS!!!! HOW CAN PEOPLE TYPE THIS WAY?? ALL IT TAKES IS ONE LITTLE KEYSTROKE!!...

    * hits the "Caps Lock" key *

...and you can type like a normal, non-angry person! Even if you're not angry, it looks like you are, because you're SHOUTING at me, in text form!! Sheesh! Annoys the crap outta me!! Seriously, how hard is it to hit the stupid Caps Lock button and communicate over the internet like a fairly-computer-literate human being??!!

Don't mean to offend anybody, just had to VENT.Yell You can disagree, and that's fine! I just had to get that out of my system! Am I the only one who feels this way?

I completely agree with you, but find it far more infuriating when someone types lYkE DiS.

Since we're in the topic of typing...I dislike abbreviations..such OP, FI, MOH, etc. Spell it out! This is not texting.

I agree. I have a client that always emails in all caps and I always think she's upset or yelling at me and it drives me crazy!

@NDBee:  I know! And people seem to do it quickly! I'm like, what? I mean it literally took me 5 times (or more?) as long to type that!! I don't even get it.

Also - as per THE YELLING TEXTS. I had a friend in high school that always texted like that and even wrote in all-caps. I was like wow, what just happened?

@woodwindwaker:  I agree. Caps are appropriate for things like "HELP, HELP, MY HOUSE IS ON FIRE CALL 911!!!!", not "BEES HELP ME I CAN'T FIND A GOOD NECKLACE TO GO WITH MY DRESS!!!!!1!!!1!"

Not to mention the "HELP ME O BEE WAN KENOBI, YOU'RE MY ONLY HOPE" posts that don't even give you any inkling of what the problem might be about, so you click on it and it turns out it's a question about finding a Wiccan officiant in Tiny Town, USA who also moonlights as a caterer/photographer/scuba diver, or any other super specific request that 99% of the population can't help with.

@Meowkers: I have a Business Contact who always types the Important Words with a Capital Letter at the Beginning. I Guess she thinks it's a Good way of adding Emphasis, but I think it's Totally Unprofessional.

ha. if I had a nickel for all the things that bug me about people on the internet.....

    typing in all caps

typing in "txt" speak when you have a full keyboard (seriously, stop it. it makes you look like a teenage moron.)

gross misuse of the apostrophe. *shudder*

I can't even read an email that is written in all caps. It literally hurts my eyes. Don't people learn typing etiquette in keyboarding class?

SO's (yeah, I abbreviated Surprised) dad used to write in all caps on Facebook.  It really peeved my guy.  Finally he asked his dad why he was doing it, and he said it was because caps are larger and easier to read.  Um...ok.  lol.

This reminds me of my very first mobile (cell) phone. It was an ancient brick, and it texted only in capital letters. So I regularly offended people with texts like 'MUM CAN YOU PLEASE PICK ME UP AFTER REHEARSAL' and 'HEY DO YOU WANT TO GO TO THE MOVIES AFTER SCHOOL ON TUESDAY?' Worse was when people would reply 'don't yell!' and I'd have to reply 'SORRY I CAN'T HELP IT, MY PHONE IS ANGRY'

@abirdword:  eek. I hope you didn't think my comment included abbreviations that are commonly seen on message boards. I find those acceptable.

I was referring to everything written entirely in txt shorthand, like saying "U R". I feel like it's only acceptable on a phone. that's right, I am the queen of internet etiquette!

but occasional abbreviations in WB? heck yeah. because for the most part, people are writing mainly with whole words and using abbreviations sparingly.

@janie-janie:  I don't even understand how saying "U R" is easier than "you are" when you have a full keyboard.  Or worse:

Itz lik u need 2 spell out sum wurdz so y not spell it all

Nevermind, I can't do it.  If I was an undercover cop I would be so busted.

@HappierKate:  My first phone was so bad. It didn't even tell time. I used to have to call the talking clock. 'At the 3rd stroke, the time will be five fifty four and 10 seconds. beep beep beep..'

My boyfriend's last job required him to use a keyboard that was set to caps only. It took me a year to get used to the emails from him being in caps ALL THE TIME!

Gah, I actually just shuddered remembering it.

This drives me nuts, however in my current job there are many things which require entry in all caps... so I've become used to the occasional short email or messenger message that's all caps, all the time.

Grammatical errors irk me more than the all caps thing, but the all caps typing is an easy fix.  Some people simply lack the education to differentiate between "your" and "you're" so I try not to be judgy (I roll my eyes silently but that's it).  If you're too lazy to meander all the way to the edge of the keyboard and hit the 'caps lock' key then you deserve to be called out on it.

Hahaha... what drives me the MOST crazy is people who cap the first letter of EVERY word. You're not writing for the headline news, kids - it's a comment/email/facebook update.

It Really Is Quite Annoying, You Know.

This thread made me laugh! At work, we use caps for headings on documents, and to use one of our programs to look up cases.  My secretary will message me and forget to take off her caps lock.  Usually when I forget to turn off the caps lock, I apologize for yelling, but she doesn't ever say anything.

Haha, she probably is yelling at me some of the time, now that I think of it.

@shooting_star5711:  We use caps for a daily task at my job, too, and I am constantly IMing people in all caps. Sometimes I don't realize and I feel like such a maroon.
