Hi Bees,
My mom just called me with some bad news... She just took our dog to the hospital because she's not eating or drinking and she won't take her medicine, she won't stop shaking and my mom said her eyes look very dull. The vet took a biopsy of her lymph nodes because he thinks she has lymphoma. She's a bernese mountain dog and I guess it's a very common form of cancer for her breed. He said if it is cancer like they suspect she probably has about 2 weeks left with us. I'm completely heartbroken right now waiting for an update. She's only 6 years old. Please say a prayer for her....

Oh no! I'm so so sorry to hear that. Sending good vibes to you and your puppy dog!
@MissBoPeep: So sorry! Having a sick pet is so tough. I'll be thinking about you and your family. Hugs!
I'm so sorry! I will be saying a prayer for her and for you.
Thank you guys. I'm a wreck waiting for the biopsy results. Right now she's getting IV fluids, painkillers, antibiotics, and something for her stomach. She's such a sweet heart and she was so scared going to the vet. My heart keeps breaking for her.
Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. It's still never easy to have news like that :-( I hope everything comes out ok.
@MissBoPeep: I will be thinking about you and your sweety. When did they think the results would be back?
oh no. i'm so, so sorry. i lost a dog to lymphoma 3 1/2 years ago and still cry over it. poor girl. i'm so sorry.
i know for the last few weeks, i did "milo's bucket list". i made sure every day we did something he would love- a ride in the car, swimming, a long walk in the woods. on his last day he ate chicken breasts, a big thing of chocolate (since he'd never had it!) and some ice cream as his last meal. i'm crying just remembering. make sure her last days are perfect!
@MrsMeNow: They said we should know today, but I'm not sure when today.
@relaxedabout it: That's a very sweet thing you did for Milo, I'm sorry for your loss. She's going to be a spoiled rotten girl when she comes home no matter the outcome.
@relaxedabout it: I'm boo hooing righ now thinking about Milo's bucket list.
@MissBoPeep: I'm sending good vibes your way...
Sending good vibes your way! I really hope your pup is ok! :(
We just got the results back, it is cancer. They said it started somewhere else and spread to her lymph nodes. They're holding her over night at the hospital and they're going to do an ultrasound to see how badly the cancer has spread.
@MissBoPeep: Oh I'm so sorry honey. I lost my kitty Smee it cancer last year and it was so tough. Sending lots of love and postive puppy thoughts your way (((hugs)))
@MissBoPeep: I'm so sorry about your pup (yes, I know she's not a puppy, but all dogs are pups to me). I pray for you to have the strength to get through this difficult time.
I'm so sorry for the news. I lost my furry boy unexpectedly last year. I know how much it hurts.
HUGS! I am so sorry. Its crazy how attached we get to our furbabies. Sending prayers your way.
i almost can't open this thread. i understand the pain you're having. just give her lots and lots of love. something tells me, she already gets that. god, dogs are the only thing that can break my heart. i will be thinking of you.
also, i have thoughts on treatment options if you are interested.
@relaxedabout it: I don't think we can afford the chemo, and they said even with chemo she isn't likely to make it more than 6 more months. I think she's going to be put on prednisone to try to reduce the swelling, and hopefully give her another month or two.
@MissBoPeep: I am so, so, sorry. :( You guys will be in my thoughts and prayers!
I am so sorry. Hopefully you will be able to spend some time with her soon. I'm sure she realizes how much you and your family love her.
i was going to suggest skipping the chemo. i spent a lot of money and it was really stressful for both of us. i wouldn't do it again. the prednisone will help some (she will drink and pee A LOT). god, i'm so sorry.
i will say milo's passing was swift (he was only outwardly ill for 18 hours before i helped him) and i am thankful for that. we are much kinder to our animals at end of life than we are to people. make her happy and comfortable and soak in every single minute.
@relaxedabout it: That actually makes me feel a little better about the decision not to do chemo, thank you. It's hard because all you want to do is whatever it takes to make them better, but what do you do when you can't? We are going to spoil her completely rotten while we can.
This giant horse of a dog grew up with two little terriers. She has no idea she's a 90lb Bernese and not a lap dog. On the ride home from picking her up from the breeder when she was a puppy she rode home in my lap, ever since then she loves to climb in my lap and curl up in this massive ball. It's the most obnoxious, sweetest thing ever. I love that she loves me so much she still wants to be in my lap even though she clearly doesn't fit and there's no way that could be comfortable for her. I'm going to miss her so much.
Oh I am so sorry! My thoughts are with you and your pup. She is too young! :(
I'm tearing up just reading this.
My family lost our Chow to cancer about 3 years ago. He had about an average lifespan and lived to be about 13. I'm so sorry her life was cut short. I'm hoping for the best for you and her.
This sucks, I'm so sorry :(. One think you could do is the "bucket list" mentioned above, & bring your camera & take lots of pics (or hire a photographer). You'll capture her happy & loving life. My mom lost a few pets to cancer & one thing she regrets is she didn't have any good pictures of them except when they were puppies/kittens.
She knows that she is very much loved & cared for... remember that. Try not to think about missing her, that will just make everything harder on you... instead, focus on how happy you are that she's still here. Prayers sent that it hasn't spread far.
@MissBoPeep: We are going through the exact same thing right now. If you need any support I can definitely relate, feel free to PM me. My pup has cancer. and it just isn't possible to do anything about it. I will put lots of positive puppy prayers for your dog.
I'm so sorry! This just breaks my heart. Pets are family and it's so hard to lose them. Praying it hasn't spread much.
I just wanted to check in with you and see how you and your sweet pup are doing. Big hugs to you!
Ugh. so sorry to hear this, you're in my thoughts. It's totally not fair that their lives are so short.
I know it won't make it better, but I read a cute quote from a kid who's dog died. He said that he knew why dogs lives were shorter than human, and when his parents asked him why? He said that Humans were put on earth to learn how to live a good life, like loving everyone and being nice all the time. He then said "well, dogs already know how to do all that so they don't have to stay as long".
Anyway, stay strong.
