@Wellington Bride:  I like the first dress with red shoes!

Unless black is apart of the wedding colors, I usually like to wear a black dress when I can.  I feel like it’s safe, you are not trying to take anything away from the bride/bridal party lol.  That would be great for the cocktail wedding and possibly a backup for the type of wedding that is not specified!

I like anything floral for garden wedding, I think both the second and third options are excellent choices.

Etiquette Snob here… lol

I see Weddings as an occasion that is serious as well as a celebration (not just an excuse to party)

And as most Weddings do include an element of seriousness… with the Ceremony aspect be they in a church or not, I tend to dress up more than down

(Lol, the once upon a time of dressing for Church is alive and well for me, partly because of my age)

So when I go to a Wedding I am not one to be flashing a whole lot of skin… it ain’t no Club.

The key is always in the Invite, and the location.

So somewhere from a nice Dress… to a Cocktail Dress… to a long Gown, depending on those factors.

I think all of your above outfits look fine BTW… very appropriate for the circumstances.

Hope this helps,

I havent been to a wedding since I was a kid. But if I did have one to go to, I’d probably wear this.

@_Adelaide_:  This is not meant as a judgemental comment, but to be helpful, the bottom button of a man’s jacket should never be fastened.  That’s a nice fit he’s got on.

I haven’t been to a wedding as a guest in the last 10 or so years – every one I’ve been to, I’ve been in the bridal party, so my dress was determined for me! I did go to one reception, but not the actual ceremony, as it was for an LDS couple. I don’t think I have a full length photo of that dress, but it was a scoopneck knee-length black dress with tiny white polka dots all over it. The reception was in a church activity hall – so pretty casual.

I’ve worn something very similar to this dress (royal blue skater dress) to an outdoor and an indoor wedding. Both were in the summer time, the indoor one being more formal but still casual in the sense that it was just a small wedding. One of the weddings was for a young couple (20 and 22) and I am young (24).

I don’t get too fussed with rules about what I should wear. Nobody cares (or should care). I don’t wear anything really skanky, but I wouldn’t wear anything like that anyway. I don’t think wedding attire necessarily has to be modest though (like knee length with sleeves).

@Duncan: haha, thanks, but I don’t even try to tell him how to dress… it’s a waste of breath. through many years of subtle comments, he’s finally wearing dress socks.

We have a wedding coming up next summer (unless we have one before it, haha), so I’ll be wearing this:

Unfortunately, I don’t like heels, so I’ll probably wear them with these:

For the last two weddings I have been to this year (early fall) I have worn these Calvin Klein dresses:

With these shoes:

This summer I attended a semi-formal outdoor wedding in the mountains and wore this Forever 21 dress:

my dress depends on where the wedding is being held; outside garden party, black tie formal, casual barn setting, etc.

Not sure why this pic keeps on posting sideways…*sigh

But anyway this is what I wore to a Summer Nature Park Wedding. I love the 1950’s classic, elegant but still flirty dresses. They are also easy to dress up for a more formal Wedding.
