We are having a girl and we decided that the color scheme will be yellow and brown, with a theme of ducks! I absolutely love ducks, and I've already found the cutest little duck themed outfits and accessories.
My pedi's office does children's book themes. Charlotte's Web is a really cute one, with the farm scenery... a big red barn, rolling fields of corn. The animals are all realistic and not the cartoony version, so it's timeless (well, up until they outgrow it!) :)
I've always loved little nautical bedrooms for babies... dark blue and crisp white and red. Plus water stuffed animals and things to make it more baby-ish :)

I LOVE this nursery--I can only hope to one day create something as adorable.
@MrsWrangler: Me too!
I also like Dr. Suess themed nurseries. I really like the line from his one book that says, "Oh the places you'll go." Like this...

Though my children are totally theoretical at this point, I really really want to do Winnie the Pooh stuff in the nursery. I loved Pooh till I was 8 or 9 and still have a soft spot in my heart for all the 100 Acre Woods. That or farm or jungle animals. I don't know, my child may have many a room redecorating done by me before they are old enough and can decide what they want!
Edit: Oh or something travel themed, I LOVE to travel and so does FI, but I am such a history nerd, I would put like, Roman mosaic on the wall, or giant Celtic Crosses, a mural of Venice, some Greek statues, or something insane like that.
My SIL picks a different book for each child. The first was Curious George, the second was Le Petit Prince, and the current one is Goodnight, Moon. The oldest still loves his prints in his "big boy" room.
She spent more on the frames than on the prints...
I loved the idea of a giraffe themed nursery but DH wasn't too excited about that. I was thinking something with things like this...

I think we'll probably end up going with a color theme instead of a more specific theme. These are my two favorite inspiration pictures at the moment.

For a girl, I'm definitely going to be doing a Bird/Birdhouse theme with lavender walls, grey and white accesories and pops of bright yellow. I want more vintage looking furniture, or maybe mixing up a modern crib with a reclaimed vintage dresser or vice/versa. I'd like to think that this is a room she wouldn't grow out of too fast.
For a boy, I'm not as focused. I can't decide on what I want! I love maps, so decupoged on a dresser, on a lamp, or a huge one on the wall would be awesome. My DH definitely wants to include these old school metal airplanes, so I'm thinking of mounting them on the wall, or dangling from the ceiling. Maybe Navy, and Tan? I think the maps and the airplanes could work together.
But I also LOVE a cowboy/texas theme. Which totally wouldn't go, haha. But I just love it. Ropes and little cowboy hats/boots. Reds, Tans, Browns. Plus, we could incorporate DH's alma mater, University of Texas Longhorns.
I would love love love to do a sci-fi themed nursery for my kids. Like a mix between buzz lightyear and Doctor Seuss. lol Mostly because I'm dying for an excuse to buy this:

The balls can be put anywhere that needs a little extra light at night! :)
I want to put glow in the dark dots on the ceiling as an accurate sky chart as well.
ETA: sorry, can't get it to resize smaller. :/
FYI, ProjectNursery.com is a place where people share their nurseries...that might be a good place to look. Rate My Space is another.
well we have talked about it even though we are not TTC yet (i have baby fever so bad!) we talked about for a boy the room will be Harley Davidson themed. i know. i'm not a huge fan of it either, but we decieded on the baby blue, white and silver stuff they have!
and for a girl i was yellow and brown with a bumble bee theme. i think big fat bumble bees are so cute with flowers around. but who knows what will actually happen!
@.twist.: Ooohhh! I really like that! Maybe I can combine that with my alphabet wall. Then I'll be set!
I want to do a pink and black paris themed room if we have a girl.

and if we have a boy I want to do a bug theme

I've loved pigs my whole life, so it was only natural that we do pink pigs for our little girl :) Especially because I have a million of them from collecting throughout the years. We added flowers in there since her name is Rose.
I'm at a loss for what we'll do for the next (which is ok b/c we still have a couple of years until we TTC again). We're going team green next so i'm trying to get excited about the next nursery... but like I said this one has been planned my whole life. I want the next one to be just as special!

I would also love to do a lodge theme but DH is quite on board yet

@mwitter80: I love this, this is actually close to what DH and I have planned for a boy. What doesn't your DH like about it?
@Quietserenity: my DH is a city boy. He's very metro. I think I can get him to swing to my side though if I use really modern things like the cardboard or the all white animal heads. I think he'll go for the wood wall. We shall see. I usually get my way ;)
i do not like anything too matchy matchy, and i LOVE antiques (half of everything in my house is vintage). here are my ideas:

We did my daughters nursery in flower fairies. We got prints painted by Cecily Mary Barker, and found fabric with her prints on it for curtains. We did a valance with balooned tulle and flower petals between the layers. Her walls are pale green and we have white furniture. My Mom and I had so much fun finally being able to do a girl nursery!
I'd like to do themes that the child can grow up with so that I won't ever have to re-paint the room. Here are some of my ideas:
For a boy I've always envisioned a space themed bedroom. I would like to paint the walls dark blue and do hundreds of tiny, glow in the dark paint dots on the ceiling so that the room looks like a starry sky at night. I also would like to hang minature planets from the ceiling, over the crib.
Close alternatives are:
Aquarium themed room with ocean mural and real fish aquarium.
Dr. Seuss.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
For a girl, I want elegance, but I'm not exactly sure how I'll be going about that yet.
We're not yet TTC, but we've discussed it. We're both huge geeks. When I was a kid I loved reading about planets and stars. FI was/is a Star Wars mega fan. So we'll probably do a space theme for either gender (would love to have a star painted wall like below) with some little Star Wars elements!

For the girl
The lovebird bedroom/spread set

The wall art
The letters

Birdhouse Shelves

We are not TTC but we have bought things slowly for the rooms, so when the time comes it's not so much of an expense.
Here is for the boys room

It's a jungle theme, which I LOVE and it's gonna be so fun to decorate with stuffed animals, cool lamps, etc
@.twist.: I LOVE that!!!
So...I might of already purchased a couple things for my completely hypothetical child's room. We're not even TTC yet! On our honeymoon at Disney I came across super cute Disney pillows and prints, very retro and themed around the styles used for merch when they first opened. And I fell in love, asked DH if our first child's room could be Disney World themed, and bought stuff. Yep, I'm ridiculous! Haha. But it's so cute!

I'm also not big on too baby baby nurseries. I want something simple, clean and bright.
Boy or girl our colors will be yellow, white with splashes of blue (more if it's a boy).
Furniture will be white, walls will be lower 2/3 will be white and upper 1/3 will be yellow separated with a blue strip across the room.
Our "theme" will be sun & moons. My husband's bedroom when he was single used to have all these sun and moon ceramic wall decor items. I've saved them all to use in the baby's nursery.
My MIL will also be making a stained glass piece for the nursery, which I'm PSYCHED about!
Wall decor will be framed "artwork" I'm going to make of sun and moons with German and Chinese names on top and bottom. My husband is German and I'm Chinese. Along with fun numbers in Chinese.
No inspiration pics unfortunately because it's all up in my noggin and have yet to see anyone else do a simple contemporary sun & moon nursery.
I'm actually not too big on themes. I typically just put things I love in a room without much thought to if it matches. So more of an eclectic theme?
I do know if we're having a girl, I am using this wallpaper on an accent wall:

But after that, I have no real plans.
If we're having a boy, well then I have no idea. I rarely find boy nursery inspiration that I like. I feel like everyone does a nautical nursery for boys.
I always thought we would do an owl theme--they are my favorite animal and look so cute in kids' rooms. I'd like to do an owl/bird theme, regardless of whether it's a boy or girl. But we are still a few years away from kids so that might change.
@.twist.: LOVE that one, I have it pinned on Pinterest :-)
Here are my two (right now) inspiration pics for my very far in the future children...

my son's room was done in classic winnie the pooh. it was all very cute and it was gender neutral. my son still has this beat up winnie the pooh doll that was the first thing we had in his room. it was a gift from my grandma and we centered the room around it.
These are all so cute! My sons nursery was just baby jungle animals. I love the giraffs, elephats, monkeys etc. It is in pastel ish greens and yellows etc. It was also really cool because I found jungle stuffed animals that matched pretty easily! This is his set
ive decided on a neutral OWL theme!!! its soooo adorable!!! i have a pinterest if youd like to see more but heres a little preview!

I'm not sure in terms of colors, but I do know that I would love to hang the lyrics to Bob Dylan's song "Forever Young" somewhere in the room--perhaps above the crib. I would like it to look pretty modern, kind of like the Dr. Seuss image from above.
@MissDareDevil: I was just about to post that first pic you did. I love the rug nd the colors.
This one I like too....maybe with different shades of paint though, a slightly bluer green.

Last night dh and I were talking about our future children and he mentioned that if we have a boy, he would love to have an owl themed nursery because as a kid, he lived watching owls. I thought it was a cute idea! So bees, whether you are ttc, not ttc, pregnant, or a mommy, do you have nursery ideas for both sexes in mind? Do you currently have a cute nursery theme? Feel free to share pics!
