No, you’re not alone. I’ve had some big expenses come up, paid some things off, and now I have a wedding. I had to switch careers for health reasons and now I make about 10k less a year, which hurts a lot.  I feel like I’m treading water, and in some ways moving backward. I don’t have any advice. Just know you’re not alone!

TiaMP:  I always feel terrible about money.  I so badly try to by my SO’s equal financially, when I make about half, to less than half, of what he does.  I’m in a graduate program, so they barely pay a living wage… AND my University pays us ONCE A MONTH!  That means, after paying all my bills and putting money into savings, I only have a couple hundred left by the last two weeks of the month.  Every once in awhile (or about once a month), I consider quitting grad school to get a real job so I don’t have to worry about this crap.

I’m with you.. DH makes about half of what I do, so the majority of the stress falls on me. I’m almost done with my bachelors and the thought of paying back the loans makes me sick to my stomach. We also have the rent, car payment, insurance, credit cards debocle too. We tried to pay alot off before/after the wedding, but life happens, and everything is back up. Its extremely stressful, especially because DH doesnt always understand how bad the situation is sometimes. Lets go here, lets eat there. He just doesnt get it. One day things will be better, I just have to keep telling myself that. It helps… Or at least I have myself thinking it does…

TiaMP:  So not alone!

I worry about money constantly. Like damarajade:, I’m in a PhD program that pays next to nothing, plus I have to pay for the rediculous parking pass and my fees which amount to more than a paycheck and are due this month. I get paid biweekly. FI and I have combined finances so it helps that he has a good job with a decent steady income, but that only started in the past couple months. Before that, FI was getting paid 100% from commission, so if he had a bad month or took time off, we were looking at a tiny paycheck. We really couldn’t plan on having any particular amount of money at all. We didn’t know if his paycheck was going to be $300 or $2000. Now it’s much better with a steady income and we are starting to gain a foothold (though we just paid for rings, so that didn’t help).

Being in school, I’m also extremely worried about when I have to start paying back my student loans. I know it’s going to be a very large payment for a very long time so I tend to get anxiety about it quite often.

No not alone at all!!! It’s a weekly struggle over here. I always feel like the more I end up making to more bills I have. Lets not add that when I do get extra money something always needs to be fixed. For the past 3 years everytime I get my income tax check I always need to get my car fixed. lol. I feel your pain lol

TiaMP:  nope not alone also. along with paying all my bills which just seem to get larger, i am now paying off all my ex’s FI’s bills as they were joint accounts. he has since fled the country and no way of tracking him down. so my bills, compounded with his bills, multiplied by wedding bills equals immense stress.

Not alone at all! I get paid weekly and every dollar is accounted for.

I work part time at a restaurant and thats for gas/eating out/entertainment and if I dont have a good week… its down to pennies at the end!

Sigh… I just try not to think about it lol

TiaMP:  Here, here!! I just told my BFF ‘OMG, we are so poor right now!!’, and we are by no means poor, per the definition.  We just had a mishap arise with my hubbies work automible, so an old/used clunker (because he is filthy after work), and put a lot of money into for repairs (because the pros of repair outweighed the cons).  Regardless, we are fortunately able to use money we had in our checking – no problem, but now NOW we are super ‘low’ in those funds, with no end in sight.  AND THE HOLIDAYS ARE COMING – insert panic attack 🙁

The thing is, our ‘poor’ is very much ‘wealthy’ compared to so many in today’s society.  We have two incomes (plus), have a nice chunk transferred to savings/month – that I refuse to stop or change (bonus), a mortgage to pay for the house over our head + the bills (blessing).  We have money for gas, three automobiles in our driveway, insurance on all, blah blah blah.  SO, if we have to watch oru spending on dinners out, or cold beverages, or a new pair of shoes for me, then that is what will do, so that our checking account remains higher – in the event another emergency comes up!!!

Ultimately, doing a-ok 🙂

TiaMP:  Preach.  It’s my number 1 stresser in life day in and day out.
