I got mine for over 50% because it was an older sample (from a 2010 collection).  If you are a close fit to any of the standard sample sizes I’d seriously recommend asking the consultant about if they have any discontinued samples to try out.  You can also sometimes buy the current samples off the rack for a hefty discount.

Dress shopping was the one time I loved my size because 12 is a really common sample size and it fit so well.

I found the perfect dress, but it was double what I wanted to pay ($2,000). I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I looked on preownedweddingdresses.com for about a month religiously for that dress. One actually came up, IN MY SIZE and color I wanted… but it was in southern california. Luckily, I was already planning a trip to LA to see a friend. So I arranged to meet the other bride in Santa Monica and I took the dress home in an extre suitcase. It fit perfectly. I added a different built in bra and a differen tbustle–the end. And it was $800!

My dress was the Angelique 930. My suggestion would be to look for the dress you like, in your size, at pre-owned wedding dress shops online. It’s not always possible to try the dress on beforehand–I didn’t try mine on–but I felt comfortable taking it home because I’d tried on that size and talked to the bride about the alterations she had or hadn’t gotten.

I have a really small budget for my dress, or at least I think it’s small $800 ($1000 including alterations) and I’m really hoping to snag a deal too, I’m hoping some bees can provide some great advice on this one!

I went it to the bridal salon with an unlimited budget on Black Friday, apparently they do a 50% sample sale that I had no idea about on this day and apparently no one else did because there was only one other bride in the store lol But this is my Ella Rosa I bought for $400! It will need to be altered from a size 8 to size 2. I plan to go back to this salon for a reception dress this year!

@vegas:  No I did not. Nataya wedding dresses are very flowy, kind of Victorian-inspired. I just took my chances and ordered a large and by golly, it fit me!

@vegas:  Not necesaarily. I knew her measurements, height and weight and compared them to mine in addition to knowing my size in that exact dress already. We were the same proportions. She didn’t alter the dress though, other than the bustle and bra inside. I changed the bra inside to fit my measurements and everything else worked. If you’re talking to another bride, I’d ask for her measurements and ask her what kind of alterations she did.

I went to a sample sale at a nearby bridal salon.  Periodically, they have a sample sale where they sell their designer dresses from previous seasons at a large discount (all dresses were $500 or under).  It was a little crazy because once you got inside, you had 15 minutes to find and try on the dresses.  Two of my BMs came with me, and they were awesome in terms of finding dresses for me to try on and helping me get into the dresses.  I had gone to the salon a few days beforehand to get an idea of what designers they carried, and the styles/shapes that I liked and I showed my BMs pics of what I was hoping to find.

I think I probably ended up trying on about 10 dresses during the 15 minutes we had, and my dress was the last one I tried on.  It’s a Maggie Sottero from a previous season’s collection, and I paid $500.  I got really lucky because I won’t need to get the dress altered, either.  I also brought the shoes that I’m planning to wear so I could also make sure that the length of the dress worked, too.

@vegas:  To be honest, I’m not sure how we did, either!  Beforehand we were able to see some of the dresses through the windows and saw some that I wanted to try on.  I think it really came down to me getting lucky – until that last dress, I was really content to leave empty-handed and chalk it up to a fun (and slightly crazy) experience and story!
