I bought My Pal Scout and My Pal Violet for my nieces and they absolutely love them! I think it’s something that would get a lot more use than the books, though they are also great gifts.

I bought my nephew scout for his 1st birthday he is now 2 1/2 and I’m pleased to report he still loves it and takes him everywhere.

Love seeing children enjoy the present I picked:))))

Personally, I don’t think a kid can ever have too many books.  We had a sprinkle for my of my friends the other weekend (basically a diaper and book shower) and her older daughter (who is like 3) was super excited about all of the new books she was going to get to read (even if they weren’t technically for her).

Books are the best and they are good for kid for many many years.  We went to our local used books store and got like 6 books for under $25.  They are all in great shape and he loved them.

I think both would be great gifts. I’m so helpful 😀

Seriously though, you can’t go wrong.

I don’t know about your 1yo friend, but my best 2.5yo friend LOVES to “read.”  She gets a book and climbs up on my lap everytime we come over.  Books are good, if parents are good about reading with kids.

I would pick My Pal Scout because I think its a great toy/educational tool but just a heads up. I bought one for our niece for her first birthday and I have never ever even seen it out at her house. DH told me later that her parents don’t like toys that make a lot of noise so they would never use it. That would have been nice to know before I bought it!

Books, every time. I hated when people gave my daughter those electronic toys.

I would skip an electronic toy and/or a toy that makes noise unless you know the parents will be ok with it.

I usually try to get kids books or things like Legos that they can be creative with.

I don’t know what a Sprout is, and I know Leapfrog is supposed to be an educational brand, but there is plenty of time to get swept into the digital world, and 1 year old just seems awfully early to me.
