Hello bees! I have been a lurker for about a year now, because I just had this thing about not joining any websites until I was ACTUALLY engaged. In the meantime, I have fallen in like with you all
. I think you ladies are wonderful, supportive, genuine, honest, and caring!
I wanted to share my proposal story! A bit of background. My FIANCE (first time in type!) and I have been dating since May 2009. The first time he asked me out, I said no! I had not long before been through a horrible breakup, and I was leaving for a semester studying abroad in Rome at the end of August. Don't get me wrong, I believe in LDR's, just wasnt so sure my own could survive being apart as long as we would have had time to be together.
Fast forward a month, and he's completely won me over anyway! We dated the whole summer, and decided to let things fall as they may while I was in Rome. We found it was so easy for us. And while I was there, we fell in love. We've been lovin' and laughin' and growing together as a couple ever since! We are currently in a little bit of an LDR, because he is still attending school and I have moved back home (2 hours apart.)
This summer several of his friends got married/engaged, and we started getting the... "when are you two going to take the plunge?!" awkward questions. He reacted by joking about NEVER getting married! (Cue my worried face here.) Deep down I knew he was kidding because we had truly talked about our wants for the future, but still. Girls hate to hear that kind of stuff.
Turns out, he was just trying to throw me off the scent. (Especially because I had friends predicting "I'd be next"...). This past saturday, the fourth, he took me out to dinner for my "birthday". (tomorrow!) He said let's dress up, it would be nice. After dinner, he pulled out a little silver wrapped package. It was a book of our love letters to each other while we were in Rome! We wrote our love story to each other in the third person from our perspectives. He had used shutterfly to make a book with pictures. Then he pulled out a letter. It was the next "chapter", and he told me to read it right there. The last sentences say "every time he drove away from her, he gets choked up. And he keeps realizing, not for the first time, that she is the girl he is going to marry. That is why they are here tonight, in this restaurant, not for her birthday, but so he can ask for her hand in marriage." He waited for my reaction (tears) and when he saw it, got down on one knee and simply asked "Will you marry me?" I said yes yes yes yes yes and the whole restaurant was clapping!
