all i can say is have fun!! If you go to a shop like David’s they will provide you with undergarments to try on for the dresses… and carry all sorts of styles of bra’s and petticoats to make the dress look right. About the only thing i can suggest bringing is maybe a pair of shoes in the height that you think you want to wear? Lace is really IN right now, so finding a lace gown is easy… and it comes heavy on the lace and very subtle. my dress has lace on the bodice but it is very subtle.

My dress is an 18w, but i am normally a 20-22 street size… so i was amazed at my dress size… BUT i assume this is because it is a corset back. which gives it a little more give.

the best advice i can say is have fun! i had so MUCH fun!! it was great. i was sad when i walked out with my dress knowing i didnt have a reason to try on more dresses anymore. its been hard not to look at anymore dresses! I also felt empowered to love myself afterwards because they all looked beautiful on me… (well most) and it was amazing to see myself that way. <3 i trully loved it! Good luck on the hunt for the dress!

@Mrs_PinkHerman:  exciting!! I was nervous too, I’m a street size 20 and had images of myself getting stuck in tiny dresses:) It actually turned out to be fun and I didn’t feel self-conscious at all. I actually ended up getting a lace dress, it was the one that felt right! Note that I’ll be adding elbow-length sleeves from the same lace and ill be toning down the cleavage quite a bit! I wasn’t wearing the right bra. Wear a shaper or Spanx when you go, you’ll get a nice smooth fit then. Good luck and rock those dresses!!!

@Mrs_PinkHerman:  All I can say is I was where you are now like 4 days ago I found my dream dress in my size. It was the only one of its kind in that store and it was my size AND it was on clearance. Depending on what store you go to they will provide a bra type thing for you. (a full torso strapless bra was what I was given to try stuff on.) that was at david’s bridal.

My dress is amazing and I am so in love with it. Just be excited take things with grain of salt. If you feel pudgey dont get upset about it. Move on to the next dress. There will be a dress there that takes your breath away. If you dont find it the first time dont sweat it. You have options.

I an a size 20/22 in wedding dresses and this is my beauty. This dress currently gives me back cleavage but whatever I will hopefully lose weight by the wedding and I am having a corset put into the dress.

@Mrs_PinkHerman:  They will have a bra that fits you. My bra size was 44 D and they went up to a 48 ddd I think. I was freaking out about that too. It was on clearance from high 800s to 380 bucks. I am still in awe. Davids bridal is amazing when working with plus size brides because they have a lot of plus size brides.

@Mrs_PinkHerman:  Also I have a disgusting tummy and you will not even notice it was there once in a dress. The bridal consultant when I was embarassed by my belly when we were in a room together she stated “That is nothing, calm down I work with women who are over 500 lbs on a weekly basis. You are fine” No I didnt cry. I teared up a lot when my cousin stepped in and bought it for me.

i teared up a little when they attendant told me its a tradition to make a wish and ring a bell at davids. but i think it was because my mom kept smiling and my best friend was crying about it. 😛 i have my first fitting this saturday… im hoping to get more of a feeling of OMG this is my dress, then “This is pretty and everyone loves it so it must be the dress.” i’ve avoided looking at other dresses because i know i look amazing in it, but since i didnt have that feeling i feel im in a postion for dress regret. 😛

@Mrs_PinkHerman:  I got mine at David’s, they have a large selection and the staff at the location I went to were really nice. I didn’t cry and funny enough I was just thinking about that today…..I felt that the dress was perfect and I felt like a bride, but no tears. Now I’m wondering if that’s just a tv show thing LOL!

My advice is to have fun, relax, laugh, enjoy, and take lots of pictures!

I got my dress from David’s Bridal and they had a wonderful selection for us larger ladies regardless of what style you’re looking for. 🙂

i went to i think 5 salons to try on dresses. each one provided me with a bra, and everyone made me feel super comfortable in my own skin. im a size 24 street (26 bridal) i went to 2 different davids bridals because each store had different dresses in my size to try on.

my suggestion is if you have a bra bring it just incase some of the smaller boutiques dont have a bra for you to use. if not wear a white bra so its not distracting. do your hair and makeup. it will make you feel more beautiful while wearing the dresses and not like you are just playing dress up.

each salon i got to try on at least 4 dresses some way more but that was the least amount of dresses i could put on in one salon.

my dress is from casablaca (pictured)

@Mrs_PinkHerman:  thank you. i paid extra to lengthen the train. i always wanted it to be long but dresses now days seem to have a sweep train or just a little longer. its always a good thing to keep in mind when shopping that most designers will let you customize ur dress for a price.
