Today I went to order my bridesmaid dress along with the other two bridesmaids and the bride. The bride got her dress at the shop and so we decided to get ours there as well. We’re doing different dresses but same colour, so they had some Alfred Sung dresses and we each settled on one.
I was kind of disapointed that they had no sample for sizes over 8, so the other girls were at least able to try the dresses on and stuff and decided which one was better for them because they are both very close to that size.
I, being plus size, wasn’t able to try anything on, but found one that looked flattering (I’m an apple shape). The lady took my measurements, and that’s where the problem came because I was “too big” for the largest size. Being an apple shape, my waist measurement was too big for even the 30W but my bust and hip were size of the 26W. I had to even sign something saying I was aware that the dress I was ordering was too small which I’m aware of obviously, but I was kind of embarassed by that point.
I plan on going on a diet obviously, but I worry that the dress will not look good on me even if I lose weight because it will be too big on the bust and hips.
Anybody ever have that experience of ordering a dress you hadn’t tried on at all and hoping for the best?
This is the dress btw.

I was a BM in my MOH’s wedding a couple of years ago. When we were dress shopping, I had a horrible time trying on dresses because of the size of my chest (36H). I wasn’t able to get the top of my dress up before ordering, and I also had to sign a waiver. I was really really nervous about it… But, after my frist and only fitting, I was very happy, and comfy!
I am third from the left.
Youe dress looks like a flattering shape and material. Try not to be too hard on yourself!

Prayers and hugs your way! Sounds like you had kind of a crappy experience, which IMO shouldn’t ever happen!!
The dress looks beautiful, though! 🙂 I bet something like spanx will be able to help, too, if the fit is borderline when it comes in.

I honestly would be very concerned about he fact that you’ve ordered a dress that may not fit.
I am plus sized and tried on a size ten sample of the wedding gown I ordered. I was very concerned about the chest of the dress, and I turned out to be correct. The bodice of my gown did not fit me properly, and, if I had tried on the dress in my size, I would have been able to see that the dress I chose was not the right style for me.
I would at least have a plan “B” for your situation. I ordered an additional yard of the fabric from which my dress was made, just in case we needed to build up the bust portion of my dress. Ultimately, however, it wouldn’t have looked good even if we had decided to do that.
