I am looking for some help. What designers carry plus size dresses (I am looking for sizes 16 and up- hopefully size 20+)? I know that David's Bridal carries plus sizes, but do any of the major designers? (Vera Wang, Amsale, Rivini, Badgley Mischka, Monique Lluillier, etc). I haven't been able to find anything about this online.
Most designers will not send (or maybe it's that the bridal salons do not order) plus size samples, however, there are plenty of high-end designers who will make their dresses in sizes sometimes as high as 30+ (yes you read that right, 30+), so as a 20 you should be fine. Call around to the boutiques who carry the designers you like and ask them in advance if they have samples you might be able to try on.
As a solid 20 when I went shopping for the first time, I could get into most size 12 samples, to at least gauge the style on me. But there were few shops that had designer gowns in large sample sizes.
I think Monique Lhullier makes up to 24....but many of the fine designers will customize sizes. I looked at dresses by Watters, Rivini, Amsale, and hmmm...I can't remember who else, but most went up to a 22 or 24 (with upcharges for sizing).
My dress (yay! I finally bought one this weekend!) is by Lea-Ann Belter and she basically customizes size, so large sizes are no problem.
That is fantastic news! One of my good friends just got engaged and she wears probably an 20 street size and she definitely wants a "designer" dress. She has been nervous about going dress shopping b/c she was afraid the dresses she wants won't come in her size. I am ecstatic to be able to tell her this! Thanks so much for your help.
