Were do you carry your weight?  I also loved the lace dresses but carry my weight in my stomach and i was able to find a dress in a size 18 to try on…dress of my dreams but far less flattering than other dresses.  I decided to buy my dress based on what looked best on me…that was dresses with ruching and with a corset (They both do wonders in disgusing the tummy).

i ended up purchasing LaSposa daphne which i havent seen posted on the bee before.  It has ruching and some lace on it…so i plan to wear a lace veil to tie in the love of lace but have a dress that looked best on me.  I tried on approx 40-50 dresses and there was only one other with ruching and lace…

if you carry your weight in other places the all over lace could be lovely on you…unfortunately just not thr case for me!

Hmm that is opposite to how i carry my weight so maybe you would be ok…i would take pictures of yourself in the dresses you try on if the bridal shops will let you..that can be helpful as sometimes pictures provide another perspective.  when you see what really looks most flattering it can help make your decision.  my personal perspective on dress shopping is that i would buy what flattered me, and i also wasnt going to buy a dress that i couldnt try in in my size (or close enough to get a very good idea).  I am sure there were lots of great dresses that would have been perfect for me if i would have seen them in my size but i wasnt willing to take that much of a risk with a big purchase.  I dont know how many bridal shops are in your area or  what sorts of samples they have but since you have some time before your wedding (and you mention you have lost some weight) you could maybe take some time in this process.  I had to buy my dress within a month of getting engaged because i had an 8 month engagement.  If i had more timei may have looked even more…i wanted something with a nicer fabric (silk) but i was crunched for time and out of local bridal shops.  There are some plus size bridal salons too that you may want to look into…not sure where the closest one would be to you…

I too wanted a lace dress as you described, however once I tried them on I realised that the style just didn’t suit me. I did however end up with a lace dress which I loved and felt so comfortable in I am a uk size 18 and my wedding dress was a size 20. Maybe you should go try on different style lace dresses to se what you think I know it’s hard when all the samples are for twigs!!  This was my style dress I think it was alone. I did originally want a key hole back dress with lace up above my bust but it made my chest look like a shelf!

Good luck and I hope ou find something you feel a million dollars in.

Google plus size bridal and search on here some should pop up…i live in the midwest i know of miss pamelas in indiana and there are 2 salons up in minneapolis st paul…you may also want to try calling one of the ones mentioned To see if they know of places closer to your house…when talking to them i got the impression that they knew of each other and would send clients (one of the places in minneapolis told me she could borrow a sample from a salon outside of detroit!)

good luck!

I was in the same boat as you when I started shopping- I was in looooove with a maggy sottero (I think its called bernadette?) It had gorgrous lace, a little sparkle, keyhole back. Unfortunatly I am a street size 22 in dresses, my wedding dress size is 26. The sample was a size 10, which I was able to squeeze into but it… was not pretty. I did wind up trying on a bunch of other lace dresses that were very flattering and even found nice boleros that can be added to a strapless gown to give you the keyhole effect which is a pretty awesome option! Below is a photo in my runner up dress- looove the lace work on it, and it was so flattering!

Luxe and glass slipper are the ones in minnesota.  They were both willing to send me of pictures of what they had in stock  that fit what i was looking for.  as i mentioned they may be able to direct you to a store closer to your house.

my dress:

it has some lace on it, but only on the bodice. i love chiffon and the tulle was surprisingly pretty… i had originally told myself i didnt want tulle because i wanted only soft fabrics… but the appearence is really beautiful! <3

some runners ups that didnt make the cut because they were either not flattering or too simple:

my second choice dress which i LOVE and if it wasnt for the fact that it was soooo simple i probably would have chosen it. its chiffon and had such beautiful movement: http://www.flickr.com/photos/54526034@N00/8750990988/in/set-72157632330359842

this one was beautiful but not flattering as it hugged me in all the wrong places: http://www.flickr.com/photos/54526034@N00/8749866731/in/set-72157632330359842/

and a ball gown… i liked it and it was flattering… but i didnt want extreme princess and ball gown: http://www.flickr.com/photos/54526034@N00/8750991224/in/set-72157632330359842/

in the end my dress had the perfect mix of ball gown to flatter me, and form fitting to make me feel elegant and beautiful, and the tulle makes me feel soft and romantic and beautiful! <3
