Hi, I purchased my MOB gown from Rowan's Bridal.-through their online site. I wear the same size as you, and I am even shorter. I don't know how their store is for alterations, because I am on the west coast. I believe they are located in NJ or PA. By the way-my MOB gown was fabulous! Their prices are phenomenal. Their website is www.keepmeinstitches.biz
Thank you sooo much!!!!!!!! I really apreciate the tip! I've been so nervous about starting this process and really apreciate any info. that I can get!!! I'll definitely check them out :oD
Im a street size 14 - I got my gown at True Love Bridals in Matawan. They're awesome there, and they have lots of samples in 14-20!
OMG Really? Thank you so much Terra!! In in central Jersey- Somerset County- so I can definitely handle the 45 min drive to Matawan! Thankyou so much!! :oD
You're welcome!
Their website isn't very fancy, but they carry a lot of great designers. The owner, Gail is super helpful, but not pushy at all. She basically let my MOH and I pull whatever gowns we wanted to try on, she was there to help when we needed, but totally out of our hair when we didnt.
There's nothing I hate more than pushy bridal sales people. I don't want someone I don't know seeing me in my spanx! hahaha
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! This may sound ridiculous, but I really have no idea- what kind of underwear do they recommend you wear when you are trying on gowns? Should I wear a regular bra, spanx? I know that after I find a gown, I'll get the correct undies for it, but for trying on, what's the norm?
I'm not from NJ, but check out the Sincerity Bridal + collection. I've already hit up David's Bridal and that was a joke. I'm eager to look at Alfred Angelo, but then I will be moving on to smaller bridal shops. I'm 5'2" as well! I was dreading dress shopping, and before my first appt. I acutally went underwear shopping. And all I ended up wearing dress shopping was a standard strapless bra and regular panties. I found that the boning inside the dresses did a lot for me. I guess it wouldn't hurt to wear a tummy holder thinger, but I don't think it's necessary for just trying dresses on. Good Luck :)
i felt better in spanx, so that's what i wore....and a strapless bra.
Thanks girls! I apreciate it! I wasn't positive what my best was going to be. Now I just have to go find a strapless bra ;) lol
Hi,
As far as finding a plus size wedding gown goes. I had a tough time when I started looking
most shops didn't have much. And even less..... to try on for size. I found a great shop in
Lebanon NJ, Lace & Beads they have a Bridal Plus Size section. They carry a nice assortment
of gowns that my street size 22W could fit in. Also 2 of my bridesmaids are plus size and they
carry dresses for them that they can try on also. Good Luck.

Hey Ladies,
I'm gearing up to begin hitting the bridal stores in NJ to try on wedding gowns! Do you have any suggestions as to which stores in NJ carried a lot of gowns that were either available in plus sizes, or had larger samples to try on? Are there any designers in particular that make fantastic dresses for plus sizes? I saw Maggie Sottero mentioned a lot of here and love her dresses, but no clue where to find them in NJ to try on. I'm starting from scratch and I tend to wear a street size of 22. Do dresses usually run smaller? I'm also petite, about 5'2, so I was worried that might become an issue as well with dresses falling much to long. I've been dreading this, fearful that being plus sized will limit my selection and I won't find something comfortable that looks great. Any help is greatly apreciated! Thank you so much for your help!!!
You girls are the best!!!!! :o)
