Im a plus size bride with my heart set on a dress that has a back that falls just below where a bra strap would be. I need to get an idea of shape wear or something that would support my 40 D bust and not show through the dress’ thin front material. Like a bustier might show at the bottom. I don’t know what to do!!

MaryMayJune: Have you tried the dress on? Did the bridal salon put you in a torsolette? There are some great ones out there with slightly lower backs that have the structure neccessary to keep everything in place. Is the dress strapless, or does it have some type of straps or sleeves?

I did try the dress on. It has straps but they are lacy so I don’t want to have anything underneath them. They did not put me in a toresolette. The material of the dress is very fine and any boning or thick seams from shapewear might show through. Who knew underwear could be so complicated!!

MaryMayJune: I know, right – it’s a total minefield!! I had a terribly difficult time finding something for my strapless low backed dress, but I think a lot of things I thought wouldn’t stay in place probably would have in the end.
A lot of stores are very understanding about this and will let you purchase something to go and try with the dress and then return it if it doesn’t work. I think the best option would be to go and purchase a few different options, including a long line strapless torsolette with minimal ridges etc. if you can find one, and maybe even a plain strapless bra (I ended up just having loops put in the back of my dress to keep the back strap down and it stayed in place, but my dress had boning) and maybe one with delicate ivory or nude straps, and then make another appointment to try the dress on with the different options. The other option would be to use those clear plastic straps, which likely wouldn’t show under the lacy straps. Honestly, it’s the only way of knowing!
Sorry I can’t be any more help – hopefully some other bees will know about specific garments that could work but otherwise, don’t be scared to go and try it on as many times as you need to feel like you have a solution you’re comfortable with. Good luck!

they have strapless bras at davids bridal with little wings that stop before your back on the sides. I would buy a bra like that and then get a good pair of spanx that stops under the bust.

It may help to see the dress?

Chech out Rago. They might have something that will work for you. If you search for Rago on weddingbee you should be able to find some helpful posts that include pictures.
