Ok girls…are any of you considering a Brazilian wax before the wedding? Have any of you had a Brazillian wax before? I have an appt Tuesday, and I’m a bit nervous as I imagine anyone might be. Being plus sized I’m curious to hear if any of you have had one and what your experience was like. I know I would be nervous regardless of my size, after all I’m letting it all hang out to a complete stranger who will be ripping my hair out from a delicate region of my body with hot wax (ouchie!), but I think being plus sized and growing up chubby makes me a little more anxious than most. I know it will hurt, but I also know how much my Fiance will LOVE it once its done. So on Tuesday, I’ll put on….errr, actually take off…. my big girl panties and hope for the best. thoughts? experiences?

I am plus sized and I’ve been waxing for years. ADVICE: Take ibuprofen before the deed. Make sure she is using the right kind of wax for bikini area. NOT thin wax with strips, Thick wax that she takes off with a stick. Make sure to use hydrocortizone and/or Tend Skin immediately after the waxing to prevent irritation and/or ingrown hairs. Make sure your girl has good reviews from other customers. Check Yelp.com or type in the place’s name in yahoo and google.
You should be fine. Your hubby will love it. You wont believe you waited this long.
Oh, you have been growing it our for at least a month, right?

While scrolling through the posts I literally cringed when I saw the word “Brazilian wax”. Unfortunately I had a bad experience and for as much as I liked the smoothness it gave me I will never have one again. Let’s just say I have a scar from it and when the “Waxer” said “Wow, this has never happened and I’ve been doing this for 25 years”… it didn’t make my poor kitty feel any better.
I hope you have better luck.

I’ve had a few and I do love them. It’s awkward, no lie about that, but believe me when I say they are like doctors and have seen it all.

I am also curious! I would like to get one but I’m extremely embarrassed about it. I am a size 20 and I have PCOS, which means extra hair. I just think I’d be one of those customers that the waxer tells stories about… 🙁

Go for it ladies =) I’ve been waxing this nether-region since I got engaged! Do you get anything else waxed (eyebrows, lip, etc). I went to the same girl that has been waxing my brows for years–she was awesome! I def second the Advil before hand, and don’t go the week before your period, you are more sensitive and it hurts more. I also recommend waxing your underarms–seriously a godsend!

@AuntPatchy yes, for about 8 weeks actually. It may be a little too long so I’ll likely need to do some “yard work” this weekend. TMI? lol
@tammys1977 I’ll give you a full report! I’m a size 20 as well : )
Ladies, Thank you all for your words of advice! I should have joined the boards months ago…its nice to have this place to come to for some girl power!!

After I had my daughter I started waxing (figured nothing else could hurt worse). Take some pain meds, leave your fear of plus size nakedness at the door and go get smooth for your man, and yourself (you will feel so clean and free lol) . Once I started I could not stop, and if you ask me the legs and under arms hurt worse. Let us all know how your first time goes.

Big or small, it’s really not that big a deal. My girl always puts my hands in places to stretch the skin so it’s taut when she rips off the strips. I swear that makes a huge difference…i do not find it painful whatsoever. While it’s being done, my girl is usually chatting away and it’s over before I know it. Not really that awkward at all, when you consider she is waxing cooters all day. Like yours has anything she hasn’t seen before! hee hee… 😉
I have a peircing, and she’s never even mentioned it. I figure that she’s seen it all. 🙂
There are days that she is so thorough i feel like I should take her out for dinner and a movie though… *blush* 😉 It can be pretty invasive!

I couldn’t do it.
I’m SO LUCKY that I’m not very hairy to start with. I shave down there every evening and it’s smooth enough!!

I don’t consider myself plus sized but considering I’m size 14 and about 200 lbs, I guess some people would so I figured I share.
I get a Brazilian wax every 3-4 weeks and have for over 3 years now. Love it! I have never tried sugaring (although I’ve heard good things) but I MUCH prefer hard wax instead of soft wax with strips. It’s much less harsh on your skin.
My hair never grows back in painfully or with bumps. I also have no residual pain afterwards (and it really doesn’t hurt that much during the waxing itself either). It is a little red for a few hours, but that’s it!
Definitely do it!

@artsygirl1970: Definitely let me know how it goes! Maybe I’ll get my nerves up before the big day next August. Fiance would be so happy! lol

Just got for it. I’m actually a licensed esthetician (I do the waxing) and I also get waxed. Its always a little tense undressing and the thought of waxing the sensitive area is scary. I get ya! I’ve been doing this for years (waxing and getting them done) where I’ve waxed newbies of all shapes, sizes, and ages. Some tips are to make sure that the hair is long enough but not too long (too long can be more painful). The hair should be atleast 2-3cm long. If you have sensitive skin, drink plenty of water and take some tylenol (2 hours prior) if you do have the tendency to get pink, or swollen. I tell my clients to wiggle their toes which helps concentrate on something else. Your esthetician will typically ask you to help her with manuevering you at all and helping her=less pain for you. Lastly, don’t hold your breath. Holding your breath actually tenses up your muscles which tenses up the hair follicle and can increase the pain. Its that first leap thats the worst and if maintained is amazing in the long run, I promise! Good luck and enjoy Brazil 🙂
