Have you tried David's Bridal? My mom got her dress there and recieved tons of compliments.
There are some here that seem to match what you're looking for:

Both Davids Bridal and Alfred Angelo have a nice selection of plus sized MOB/G dresses. We wanted to order my moms from AA but we ended up not having enough time so we bought one off the rack at DB. My mom is 51 and pretty reserved when it comes to her clothing. Her dress was floor length with a ¾ sleeve jacket that went over it. She looked incredible!
Don't mind the tears... she cried through the entire ceremony, lol.

I would personally go w/ more of a suit. When I was trying to help my Mom look for a dress, we couldn't find anything in our colors. Purple and Silver. We found beautiful suits but we couldn't find anything in my wedding colors. Eventually we purchased 4 dresses online and she went w/ that. I highly suggest you check out Macy's and Jc Penney's. That's where my Mom and Grandma purchase all of their suits.

@squeak35: that MOB dress is so pretty:)
Thanks for your pictures, ladies! CaitMarae, I love that one. Structured and yet feminine. I'll have to see if I can find something similar...
My Mom didn't want glitz and glam either. Nor, did she want to have a tight fitting gown that had a slit up the side. She ended up purchasing a long skirt and jacket from JCPenney's. I think she looked beautiful (especially, since she hates wearing anything other than slacks)!
My Mom got her MOB outfit from Roaman's through OneStopPlus' Special Occassion section. They have a wide range of styles and they carry many major plus retailers.

Hello bees,
Can anyone give me some suggestions for retailers of plus-sized mother of the bride dresses that are, shall we say, more on the old-fashioned, less glam side of things? My mom is almost 70, and pretty much hates everything that she's seeing from wedding retailers and in department stores. She thinks that they look more appropriate for women in their 40s, and that the awards-show gown-like cut of many of them "would make me look like I was trying to upstage you" or "makes me look like I'm trying to be the 'sexy' mommy." (My mom cracks me up. <3)
I can totally see where she's coming from on a lot of the dresses, to be fair. They just aren't her, most of them, and wouldn't have been when she was younger, either. And then that doesn't even address the fact that the material on lots of department store style dresses is SO CHEAP...and that everyone assumes that plus-sized women should just wear black for every formal occasion.
Ultimately, the most important thing to me is that she has a dress that SHE feels comfortable and pretty in. So...if anyone has some tips for tea-length loose-fitting plus-sized formal dresses, preferably with (non-bolero) jackets, that come in nice jewel tone colors, I'd be grateful!
