Acupuncture helped me A LOT!  Even physical symptoms like bloating and cravings diminished.  Literally ten days out from my period, every month, I would start to feel my mood and my body change and I would get sad, upset, hopeless, irritable…I would have weird dreams and not be able to sleep, and I tried so hard not to but I treated FH like crap too.

After about four weeks of acupuncture leading up to my next cycle and some herbs (I honestly could not tell you what they’re called though), a lot of that dimished.  I still get some PMS, but not for nearly as long and not as severe – I can’t “feel” that shift anymore.

I do as well. Avoid sugar, caffeine, alchohol, dairy. I just went to my doc last week about this. Try nuvoring. My doc suggested this…but if this doesnt work, I will need to go on anti D. 🙁

@Mrs.Jansen:  FWIW it let up a little after I cut out gluten and dairy (for other reasons) but the PMDD always back full strength after my body got used to it. No hormonal birth control helped, ever, and a couple actually made it worse so I really hope something natural works out for you!

I was going to suggest the BCP, but obviously that’s not what you’re looking for right now 🙂

Getting some bloodwork done might help, being slightly deficient in some things might get worse through your cycles and can make things worse.

My old doctor recommended evening of primrose oil.  I don’t know if it actually really helped or not, but other than the cost of buying it I don’t think there’s a downside to giving it a try.

@Mrs.Jansen:

Yes it is the most miserable thing in the world I swear. I spend half the month not my self, and go through depression and like a hopeless sad feeling. It is very hard feeling not yourself! I got a depo shot this time to try, but IDK I feel different LOL. Hated lots of other BC this was a last resort. Dr wants to do saliva testing on my hormones to see if they are out of balance, I will try that after some time off BC, but I am young and saliva testing is not covered by insurance and is expensive. I have a lot of other stuff going on right now with migraines too… FUN! Good luck, and I know you are TTC but ask your doctor about taking SAM-E I took it for several months and I really feel like it helped. It is a natural herb/vitamin, not sure if ok while TTC though.

I went to the Dr. as well and was crushed when she responded with “the only options are an anti depressant, or birth control”. It was horrible feeling like I’d have to spend the rest of my life taking a pill!! I am pretty natural, I’m a vegetarian, and I don’t take medicine so those options weren’t something I was willing to accept. I went to a hollistic Dr. and started taking a homeopathic spray for PMS LIDDELL Laboratories. If you know your body well, you take this spray 2-3 times/day when you’re pmsing or experiencing the PMDD symptoms. I love it.

I’ve also been told to give up dairy that it also effects a women’s hormones, and I take sweet basil.

I thought this blog spot was awesome, and after showing it to my SO, it helped him understand me a lot more! Hang in there girl!

@Mrs.Jansen:  Oh also something that does help me is working out, I know when I will start feeling down and I up the work outs even though the first couple of days are no fun since you are more tired and feel bloated but it really helps too… makes you feel better about your self!

I got it at Whole Foods, but you may be able to get it online too?

This might not be helpful at all since I’m diagnosed with bipolar, but I get insane right before my period. Pills have helped a little bit, and I think one of them (zoloft) is supposed to also help with pmdd…

For a while I was against taking meds, but it really has helped a lot. I got sick of having 1 or 2 weeks out of every month where I felt like the world was ending and I was ready to snap at my fiance over everything and anything and then getting hysterically depressed and sad and then manic and then sad again. It didn’t really feel like I was living.

I’ve also been advised to try acupuncture but I also hear it’s expensive…

I have this issue, too. I will not take antidpressents, but will consider it if I end up with post-partem problems after we have kids.

I was doing really well with St. John’s Wort and plenty of sleep and exercise, but St. John’s Wort messes with BCP so I can’t take it anymore.

A whole lot of exercise makes a world of difference, honestly. I just work myself until I’m exhausted.
