I hate PMS! I seem to have it for an entire week before I get my period. Sore chest that grows visibly, bloating (I seriously get a lot rounder in the belly and just fatter around the midsection, it’s like I gained 5 pounds, in fact I probably DO gain 5 pounds in water weight), and my sense of smell goes into hypersmell mode– EVERYTHING stinks and I can smell the faintest odors from 6 feet away. And my digestion, well, it’s not too great normally, but it does all kinds of interesting (not) things for the few days before my period arrives. Oh, and I get SO moody– and I tend to tell people off and be WAY more direct if I’m unhappy with someone at this time of the month, too (like my jerk landlord at school =O).
I hate it! It is gross! I have just started taking hormone-balancing herbs to try and fix this (I’m into herbal medicine and it usually works well for me), but it will be a couple months until the effects of that become really obvious. I can’t go on BC pills, been there, done that, and it’s a disaster for me.
Seriously, sometimes I feel like my PMS is like other people’s early pregnancy symptoms, but I have an IUD, so I really don’t think that’s what’s going on. . . certainly not every single month!!
So, do you get these same troubles? What bugs you the most about PMS? Commiserate with me please!!! ;P

i dont have any physical symptoms, other than lower ab & back cramps, but damn do my emotions get out of wack! I sat in my car after lunch yesterday & just cried for 15 minutes. Everything seemed overwhelming and i felt SO frazzled. I woke up feeling much better today! Which is good, because i’m wearing my new Urban Decay mascara & would hate to ruin it! 😉

@theEguarantee: That would be a shame to wreck some fun new mascara. 😉
I get emotional like that if I am PMSing, haven’t gotten enough sleep, have too much coffee, and something with school goes wrong and stresses me out. IN THAT situation (which I definitely try to avoid) I’ll have to be trying not to cry through an entire afternoon of class (especially if it’s Biostatistics, I HATE that stuff but it’s required, ugh).

@Creiddylad: We must have the same body. It really stinks.
All the same problems. I just started AF yesterday…and the 5 days before are HELL. I got sore breast to the point like you said that I can SEE the growth, bloated tummy UGH, tiredness, you name it I have it.
I also get a bit moody. It feels like I am a prisionor to my body for 12 days.
It certainly does feel like what everyone describes as pregnancy.
I have tried taking an Ibprofin once a day everyday 7 days before my AF and that does help with some of the sypmtons.
I too, cannot use BC. I had strokes from it.

My PMS is about two days before my period starts aka the worst 48 hours of my life every month, lol.
Within a day of going off my BC pill I become a weepy emotional mess, lol. I cry at everything, and when I’m sitting there crying I’m just thinking,”This is STUPID! WHY AM I CRYING?” I even out after a few days, but for like 48 hours I should just wear a sign that says,”Don’t talk to me.”
I also get super tired and any task at all, like hanging up a shirt, seems like an impossible obstacle.

@Meant2Bee: Yeah, it sure does! Yuck. I’m glad someone else has had the thought that it seems like early pregnancy every time, too. It’s so gross! It’s tempting for me to try the ibuprofen, but it’s too late to really start that now. Although I have a headache right now, that would be a good excuse!
@misskittenn: Bleh, that is sort of why I can’t take BC at all. When I was on it, I was so foggy-headed, clumsy, forgetful, and my digestion problems got 100X worse than they’d ever been before. Plus I was sooooo moody! ugh.
I forgot one of the most annoying symptoms I get, every freaking month: HOT FLASHES!!! If I get them from the low estrogen of being about to get my period now, I can only imagine what menopause will be like! NOT looking forward to that!

bloating (I seriously get a lot rounder in the belly and just fatter around the midsection, it’s like I gained 5 pounds, in fact I probably DO gain 5 pounds in water weight),
But I must admit…IDK how much of it is water weight haha!! When I start feeling it (probably in 3 or so days), I eat whatever I want to make me feel better. I’m an avid dieter, eat a lot of salads……but not when I’m PMSing! Pass the pizza, burgers, fries, CHOCOLATE, salt and vinegar potato chips, pasta, PASTA, cheese haha. Which I’m pretty sure contributes to the, um, bloating haha!

@veryberry13: Um, yeah! I also wonder if it is all water weight myself, since I get SO hungry and eat way too much cheese, carbs, and chocolate. I feel gross and unattractive when I’m this bloaded and it makes me want to diet/exercise, but I’m just too hungry! And tired!

@Creiddylad: hahahaha! I just try to be good at working out and dieting the other 3 weeks of the month, because the entire week leading up to my period (and a few days of my period) is a friggin crapshoot haha!

@Creiddylad: I get PMS about a week before, also. I become ultra-crabby and the bloating is so bad I look 7 months pregnant. Everything irritates me during PMS. I crave chocolate and carbs.
During the actual menstruation, I get bottom-less-stomach syndrome (term I made up) because I can eat anything and everything and never feel full!

I gain 5-7 lbs., eat nonstop, get bloated and constipated, breast pain, acne, fatigue, muscle aches, and the day before Aunt Flo visits I always feel like I’m coming down with a cold – sore throat, headache, nausea.

I’m usually a really even-keeled, happy person, but oh man, I get SO RAGEY for a day or two! It’s the craziest feeling – I feel so irrationally angry over stupid little things.
My poor sweet husband is usually the recipient of that…

@sarahuccs: Yuck, I know, I feel like I look pregnant too. I already have a tummy that sticks out, so this is really bad. . .
@Aquaria: You sound like me, although thank goodness I don’t feel like I’m getting a cold the day before anymore (I had that when I was a teenager).
@lolot: I know, my SO has had to weather some major outbursts– he kind of tiptoes around me at that time of the month. :/

@Creiddylad: OMG!!! Are you me?? lol The unbelievable bloating, the one week of symptoms, the mood swings, the sense of smell (although mine is always more sensitive, but yeah, in PMS it is bothering me more), etc. I have all of this, I HATE PMS!!! I also get light cramps TWO days before I even start bleeding! I mean come on! If you’re going to cramp, at least do it for a good reason lol
I sympathise! (PS when I used to take the pill, it was even 10 times worse!)

@Meant2Bee: Oh yeah! I forgot about the sore breasts 😛 Although the pain is not every month, but they do swell every month and my bras are really tight (but my FI is really happy haha)
