There has been some kind of Say Yes marathon on TLC today, and I have been watching. Ignoring the fact that I kind of hate most Pnina dresses because I think they look cheap, I find it really awkward how often she is at the store trying to talk girls into her dresses or altering her dresses to keep a bride from getting someone elses design.
I mean, if it were me I would be EXTREMELY put off by how pushy she is. She tries to make it seem like shes so nice and shes doing it to make brides dreams come true, but really its just her being pushy and raking in the dollars for herself. These brides end up with a “custom” gown from Pnina for over $10k most times that look like dresses from other designers that are less than 5.
Has anyone else noticed this or have a different opinion on it?

@a_day_at_the_fair: It always creeps me out when the designers are in house, I would feel so pressured! But yeah, Pnina’s stuff is usually so flashy and gaudy, totally not my style. You can get the same quality of dress for half the cost or less elsewhere.

@Minae: Thats what I’m saying! There was that episode where Henry Roth was in the store, and the girl was saying she felt like she had to keep trying on his dresses even though they werent her style just because he was being so nice to her and she didnt want to hurt his feelings.
Thats how I feel with Pnina being there all the time. Like these people get talked into things that maybe they wouldnt have done if she wasnt there saying “oh I can do this and this and this to make it what you want.”
Or there was one where a girl had on a dress and Pnina came up “offended” because the dress was allegedly a copy of one of her dresses, so she has the girl try on her dress and then tells her she’ll give her a discount so she can afford the “real” dress? So outrageous to me

Yes, I’m always shocked at how much they cost. Especially as a large percentage of them seem to be made of tulle with a hoop skirt underneath. Their are so many with sheer bodices too that look like she got rhinestones and and glue gun and went at it! Haha!

I agree I would feel very pressured to buy a gown if the designer was in my face. I said I didn’t like the beading don’t offer to change it. It means I don’t love the dress.

I’ve always been so incredulous at the fact that Pnina’s fairy-stripper-costume dresses are priced so incredibly high. They honestly look so cheap.

I’ve just always found it hilarious when they talk about Pnina being in the salon as if its some surprise. I dont think anywhere but Klienfelds carries her monstrocities, so where else would she possibly be?

@peonyinparis: have to agree. there is one that has been purchased like 10 different times on the show cause every girl loves it apparently, and i hate it. i think its hideous.
My style is more Pronovias which is what i wore. LOVED my nice light elegent dress,

I agree with how pushy she is! Last night on a rerun, she convinced a bride to go cuatom(which was ugly by the way) and it came out to be $30,000… I almost shit…

@a_day_at_the_fair: I saw that episode where she was offended…so bizarre! Why didn’t she get pissy at Kleinfelds for carrying it rather than the girl for trying it on?
I really don’t like her dresses. I feel like SYTTD has reallllly been pushing her dresses recently too.

I completely agree about her dresses. I have only ever seen her dresses on the show, so my assessment only includes those featured-so please don’t get offended if you have one of her dresses.Maybe she has some beautiful dresses I have never seen, I don’t know.
It seems to me that every bride on the show who picks one of her dresses wants to look like a stripper. You can see through the corsets, the bust area is just awful with boobs all over the place, and they are all about the bling bling disco ball look. They look more like pageant dresses to me!
I also agree that she herself is a bit tacky and pushy. Everytime I hear a bride say I WANT PNINA I think of some over the top skanky bridezilla waving a long fake nail in someone’s face. Haha.
I don’t know who she thinks she is charging that kind of money. If I have the budget to spend 10,000-30,000 on a dress…honey I’m getting an Oscar or Angel Sanchez. Thanks.

@a_day_at_the_fair: That’s pretty awful, but I have to wonder, if these girls are on a show called “say yes to the dress” perhaps they would cave to pressure from a desinger/showroom more easily than a different bride? I mean, most of them are there for the attention/camera time, and if a designer is offering to go custom, that means more attention/camera time on them, kwim??
As for my thoughts on her dresses…well……when I went dress shopping the sales clerk asked what I didn’t want, and I was like “None of that see-through beaded corset nonsense. I don’t want to wear lingerie down the aisle on my wedding day.”

She does seem very pushy! I’ve seen episodes where the bride is clearly uncomfortable with her there and is afraid to say “no thanks”. I used to think pnina dresses were gorgeous when I was like 16 but now that I watch the show to actually get an idea of what I would want to wear someday they make cringe. A few of them are more delicate and pretty but the huge tulle skirts and crystal bodices seem so gaudy. An episode I saw yesterday described them as “Vegas” dresses, which seems to be an accurate description.

@missoptimism: You probably liked them when you were 16 because they are more prom dressy than wedding dressy hah! Dye them vibrant colors and you basically have high school prom.
