I just watched the episode of SYTTD where the girl tries on some dress and Pnina is in the salon and gets all uppity because she thinks it's a rip off of her dress and says something to the owners to the effect of "I'm PNINA TORNAI. I'm worth it!"

Seriously I wanted to throw something at my television. Get over yourself, Pnina. A lot of her dresses are fug anyway. She's somehow single-handedly made it acceptable for girls to get married half naked in churches. Real accomplishment. Ugh. It made me so mad and so glad that I had no interest in her dresses. Some of them are pretty but PUH-LEASE - check your attitude sweetheart. DIVA! You could tell even the Kleinfeld people in their heads were like STFU, Pnina.

Did anyone else see that and want to punch her in the face?

I haven't seen it, but I wouldn't pay a big price for a dress that's missing half the fabric it should have...
She does have some beautiful dressier dresses though.
But I do not like attitude. From anyone, good designer or not.

Yea, I just watched that one, too and she gets on my LAST NERVE! I can't see myself paying 7-10k for her, dare I say, sometimes slutty looking gowns. She does some gorgeous work on her more appropriate and classier looking gowns but still, she acts like she is THE best. Def a diva, ugh cant stand her attitude! So rude of her to act like that in the store but at least the bride was happy.

On a happier note, super excited for a new SYTTD and Four Weddings! Yay for wedding night!! Ha

Does she have something with Kleinfeld's?  I ask only because her dresses are always on Say Yes to the Dress, and I don't imagine all these brides being drawn to her stuff, but maybe they are.

I've seen the episode you're talking about, it annoyed me too!  She may be a great designer, but that doesn't mean that everyone can/wants to spend that type of money for one day!

Yeah Kleinfeld has a Pnina boutique where they feature a lot of her gowns you can't get anywhere else so she's always there (or at least she's there a lot when they're filming).

I haven't seen the program - but I agree with you regarding Pnina's dresses and designs - I cannot believe that people are buying see through dresses to wear on their wedding day...

I saw that episode. I guess she can afford to act that way. To me, she was acting like a spoiled child. But she did give the bride a good deal on her gown.

I can hardly wait for the new shows. I find myself wondering if I will still watch them after I am married, and even though I wonder, I think the answer is yes, I will still watch them For me, they are kind of addicting.

I saw that episode too!  She is a diva, that's for sure!  I guess it comes with the territory of being a "hot shot" designer.  I definitely agree with all the other comments...most of the Pnina dresses are a bit on the slutty side...not what I would choose to wear down the aisle in front of my family and friends.

Couldn't agree with you more....She is always on and when looking at her dresses I don't think "wedding" I think....

The other thing I notice about the show (which I love btw) is that they often times put the brides in the same dresses. I feel as though I'm watching a dress rehearsal with different actresses (brides) you know what I mean...

@noritake22 - - there are 2 new episodes every Friday night. It just started again a couple of weekends ago. So if you're home tonight check'em =)

I think it's so coincidental that she happens to be there all the time they are filming.  They are always tossing out her name on that show.  And I agree, most of her dresses have way too much going on.  If anything, I was surprised I actually liked one that was shown here on the bee a while back.  But the prices are just  ridiculous.  It's like deciding on having a wedding or a wedding dress, the prices are outrageous!

I saw that episode and thought the same thing!  I couldn't believe how obnoxious she was about it.  It cracked me up that the staff even said they would never stock a knock off her dress it was so ridiculous.

On another note-thank you for the reminder thatboth SYTTD and Four Weddings is on tonight!  I totally forgot to set my DVR!!

Ok, so I fell in love with this dress of hers on the internets before I knew it was her.  I found it to be one of the much classier get ups in an awesome fantasy kind of style.

Then I found out it was $24,000 and almost pooped myself.  I found a chinese knockoff for $800 online but couldn't do it.  I also found a girl in Jersey who was selling her used gown for $8000 which was still way to steep for me.

Sigh.  I kind of secretly wish I could try on one of those see through dresses for giggles.

I think that was on a recent episode.  It was a sample and the girl's father didn't want to spend the 24k on it so they talked them down to like 12 I think?  I can't remember if she got it but it was all ripped in the lace and everything.  Gorgeous dress though.

I find her dresses ridiculous and over-the-top and trendy, not classic.  I thought $5,000 was a lot for a dress... but $10,000!  $20,000!  It just seems wrong to me, personally.  IMO, you should get yourself a dress for half that and save some dolphins.  Sorry- I am half-kidding, maybe getting carried away... to each his own I guess... but to me those dresses look like giving birth to fabric!

Pnina is definitely an interesting designer.  I think she is exclusive to Kleinfeld's  I've seen other versions of Say yes that make me think that she doesn't always listen to her brides.  One show I saw her "correct" a bride who said there was an error in her ordered dress.  The bride was right and Pnina wasn't as nice as I thought she should be... after all the dress isn't about the designer... the Gown is all about the BRIDE!!!

Ugh.. yeah I also dislike the half naked bodice top of her gowns, but the skirt and silhouette is often pretty. I also think she has the option to put fabric so the top is not see through...some brides just don't use it!

The sad thing is that the MAJORITY of Pnina's dresses in most seasons aren't the see-through ones, which I hate.  Most of them are gorgeous, luxurious twists on classics.  But they continue to show the stripperlicious see-through ones because they shock people and the brides who get them are usually...definitely characters.  It is a TV show after all.

I met Pnina at Kleinfeld.  She was nice to me, but then I was trying on one of her dresses and was seriously interested in buying it.  And I am gonig to buy it, so it bothers me that people have such bad impressions of her designs over what is shown on SYTTD.  The samples of the more classic Pnina designs I tried on were basically TRASHED so I know a lot of people must be interested in them and probably buy them, but I've only seen something that resembled my dress on SYTTD twice.

Pnina's always on the show because she's there at least several days a month and she probably has it in her contract with them that if they're the only place in the USA that can sell her, they have to work their asses off to promote her.  And probably also because they want viewers to lust after some of the most expensive dresses in their store and hopefully, some will come in and buy them!

Here's my dress by Pnina, btw, I've posted it a million times but I just want to add good credit to her name.  I'm having sleeves added and the bodice changed to lace--I'm not a fan of beading on myself.

Pnina Tornai is really obnoxious : wedding Mine

Her dresses really are magnificent.  The construction is to die for and the fabrics are sooo fine.  As someone who'd been obsessed with clothing, textile, and fashion history and who's stood in museums for hours to stare at the House of Worth's early couture, I really dug this dress because it reminded me a lot of those exquisite Victorian-era dresses.  I think she's a brilliant, careful, thoughtful designer, as much as I dislike her stripper fairy dresses, but hey, she's definitely got people talking about her and her designs.

I didn't see the episode, but one of her striperella gowns was featured on a bride in a Houston wedding magazine.  FI saw the picture and thought it was a joke or a Halloween costume.  He about died when I explained how expensive the dress was and how the bride had to go to NY to get the dress.

Honestly, I agree with the bees on this thread. I dislike her stripper dresses, I dislike the non-stripper ones. It's all the same to me. I think that she commits highway robbery. It seems to me, from the ladies on SYTTD at least, that her dresses are a status thing. They want the name, the expense and what it represents, not the dress. I am all for going over the top. I sew. I'm heavily into theatrical, historical and fantasy costuming an even I can't go that over-the-top. I'd feel classier wearing Princess Leia's golden bikini. In the end, to each their own. It's just really not my cup of tea.

I saw that episode as well. Her attitude was ridiculous. I would have snapped at her to shut up and then bought the copy just to spite her. That poor bride looked so awkward. I really felt for her.

Really, the dresses we see by her most often are the most outrageous ones, because they add shock value, which is great for TV ratings.

Take a look at some dresses from her runway shows from the past few seasons:

Interesting embellishments and attention to the lay of the fabric, but nothing extreme.  If they'd been in another designer's collection, tons of bees would be like, "oh! how beautiful.  very nice dress."  I've certainly seen a million more gaudy dresses by Maggie Sottero, and yet those are never criticized. If you look at Pnina's collections in their entireties, you'll see that almost none of the dresses have the sheer bodices and chaotic, enormous, child-eating skirts!

It's silly and immature to say that all people who buy Pnina Tornai's dresses are brand whores.  You could say the same thing, and, in my opinion, make a better case, about people who buy many of Vera Wang or Monique Lhullier's designs.  A lot of them are quite simple and there are dresses that look very similar at every price range, and yet VW or ML's dress can cost up to $10k as well (more with lots of crystals, beading, etc.).  And yet no one criticizes them!  Now, I believe there is truly a difference in the quality of the average $10k dress and $1k dress, so I would never say that, because I believe a bride opting for a simpler dress but still wants luxurious fabric, expert tailoring, etc., should opt for the Vera Wang, and that doesn't make her a brand whore.  It makes her someone that respects the fact that well-made clothing has an art to it.

Furthermore, if you look at non-wedding dresses made by luxury brands, from Marchesa to Chanel to Lanvin to whomever, they will cost the same price or MORE for the amount of fabric and detail that goes into the dress.  I could walk into a Chloé boutique and pay $8k for this dress off-the-rack, or I could pay $9k after haggling and have my measurements done by Pnina Tornai herself, and have a dress that incorporates more fabric than the above Chloé dress, plus some beading, custom-made for me.  If you think luxury goods are always too expensive, well, that's your opinion, and I might agree with you a bit, but I also acknowledge that I personally am not going to change the industry standard for luxury good costs and so I know that if I want it, I'm going to have to pay up.

I don't like all of Pnina Tornai's dresses.  No other dress by her would have been in my top 30 list of contenders, if I'd made one.  But I respect what she does, even if some of her dresses are really, really not my style, because she's bringing the world of couture to the world of wedding dresses, which helps give the world of couture a fighting chance in an age where everyone's got a short attention span and a desire for throwaway fashions.  I believe that creative, well-made clothing should be recognized as art (something I argued for from my early teen years, when I believed I'd choose fashion historian/writer as a career, and lately I've been considering following that path again), and I believe that Pnina Tornai makes art.  So that's my take.

Some girls like simple dresses, but I'm not one of them.  I like my dresses to be interesting to look at.  Pnina Tornai provided that for me, with the period-piece feel that I love.  I loved that dress before I was engaged, before I knew who the heck the designer was, before I'd heard of SYTTD or Kleinfeld.  I love that dress purely because I find it incredibly beautiful.  I think a lot of girls might feel the same way about their Pnina Tornai dresses.

I love the new season. I dvr the show so when I get home I can sit here and say yes or nay..  I have my dress but I still like the show.. it does not make me wish I had one of those 30,000 to me, so rediculous dresses..

This may sound odd coming from a Mom, but I looked up and liked some of her saucy models.  That's not all she does obviously.  But I admire her design skills- couldn't afford her for my daughter unless I took out a second mortgage... but the dress is not a concern here, as my daughter is quite the designer/seamstress who will probably retrofit or make a dress from scratch.
