Springwedding00: I try not to blast stuff on social media or through texts. Sometimes if I’m really excited about something, I’ll post it, but otherwise I just don’t. I’m not keeping anything a “surprise” because even if I said that we are having vintage mismatched china, describe the centerpieces, and describe the decor, it’s still going to be cool when they see it.

When I first started planning and was brainstorming, i talked about with other people and sought their input. Now that I’m actually putting things together, I consider the “comment period” closed lol People have an idea of what I’m doing but they’ll just have to see it at the wedding.

Total surprise!! Nobody (except my fiance) knows anything! I worked really hard designing the space so just as a personal preference I want people to be completely surprised by what they are walking into! I want them to get the wow-factor!

I have posted a couple of my DIY things while they were in the progress of being made, but I don’t really have a theme and I don’t think anything I am doing will WOW anyone… it’s simple, and easy – just what I wanted.

Sort of.. I’ve posted very few items [not like the really big stuff]. Just things that I was really excited about.. but it was few and far between.

The last time I posted something with a picture of decor was on April 28th.. and I posted this :

Because we really are best friends.

Before that, was January 19th.. and I was super excited about these signs I made :

Otherwise, I posted a picture of my save the date back in April, and that’s been it.

Oh, I lied! I posted these back in June! Our place cards.

But all the larger stuff like the uplighting, centerpieces, drapery, candy buffet, chandeliers, ect are a secret. I want people to be surprised!

I don’t “post” anything, but that doesn’t mean it is being kept a surprise. I don’t hide wedding stuff when friends and family come over. I ask my sister for input, but I’m not actively putting things on social media (not that I do that anyway)

I didn’t keep it a surprise from anyone, but I didn’t post things about it for the same reasons: why would anyone else care?

If people asked about decorations I told them, but those who didn’t I guess were “surprised” by them haha.

I wish I could keep EVERYTHING a secret (ceremony, dress, decor, food, entertainment etc) but it’s impossible. I guess it’s important to other people to feel involved? I’d rather do it all myself and surprise everyone with the results, so it feels like we are really hosting an event (not trying to impress people really, but want to feel like a good host and hostess, not like it was a big group effort). I’m weird like that though

You know, after 2 weddings of my own and those of my 4 girls here is what I have noticed (as well as at others weddings the last few years) – no one cares about your decor. It is expected, yeah, it is cute for a couple of minutes and then people care about food, drink, music, and socializing.

My last DD got married in June and was not secretive about her decor but didn’t blast it on social media. She had one wow factor that got talked about all night (my other 3 girls did not) and that was the 8×10 foot backlit paper flower wall she made. It was the backdrop for the ceremony, their dinner, and the dancing. People had never seen one before so they talked about it a LOT. Her centerpieces, linens, and other decor? Nope. Most people can’t tell you the decor from the last wedding they went to unless they were in the middle of planning their own.

All of that is to say – don’t sweat it. All that work is pretty and people will oooh and aaawwww for a couple of minutes and then they really don’t care. Don’t add any stress trying to keep it secret.

Yes. All my Pinterest boards are secret save for one “decoy” board haha- mostly of film/tv/vintage/editorial brides. I am a prop/wardrobe stylist professionally so having things be original and my style is important to me. im also having a long engagement so I don’t want to see someone else have my wedding. And a surprise factor will be grand.

But if you’re having standard centerpieces/decor I don’t think anyone is going to be wowed regardless- secret or not. Not that wowing decor is the point of the evening but for me, it will reflect what I do for a living and I want it to meet the same standards I produce for photo shoots/videos.

Springwedding00: ha, nothing will be a surprise at my reception. Heck, everyone’s even seen pics of my dress (except my fiance that is). I figure no one cares about those things except the two of us. 🙂

Honestly, I’ve been to lots of weddings and I don’t remember anyone’s reception decor. Not even vaguely. I do remember happy beautiful couples, yummy food and good dancing, etc.
