One was thrown by my over the top and amazing BMs at Alice's Tea Cup in NYC. The other was in Alabama with my mom's friends. Bunch of ladies who have known me from birth...it was a different shower from the first one but still fun!
There was no option for zero, but I opted not to have one. It seemed pointless to me and I felt like it was just an excuse to get more gifts. But we sure did make up for it at the bachlorette party, man all that bullriding did me in. I couldn't walk for 3 days, so glad we had it the week before the wedding.
I had the tradtional one with all the girls and then my husband's work threw us a "man shower" that was a lot of fun!
I had one here in California, hosted by my MOH at my parents house, and one in Minnesota, hosted by 4 of Mr. Peng's aunts. They were both a total blast!
I'm having one thrown by a BM for my friends and one thrown by a family friend for my mom's friends :)
I'm having one thrown my by sister and aunt and another being thrown by my FMIL. I wasn't super excited about going to my FMIL's shower (for various reasons), but it was extremely important to her, so I gave in.
I realize it's completely unreasonable, but I'm having 7...
One thrown by a good church friend, inviting FMIL's coworkers and some other church ladies.
One thrown by sis/MOH and aunty for all family, on both sides
One thrown by BM for friends my age
One thrown by a member of the parents' Sunday School class for all others in the class
One thrown by BMs/Sorority Sisters for sorority members from college (only a year since I graduated) (lingerie shower)
One thrown by Mom's best friends (a tea where they always give the bride one gift card)
Last one thrown by my small group--lingerie
Our guest list is huge (400) and people kept coming out of the woodwork telling me they really wanted to throw us a shower. I couldn't say no! I also told each of them as they asked to host a shower how many I was having. Each encouraged me to have as many as I was offered--that you could never have too many. I'll let you know how that goes after I have two in one weekend in April...
About half of my bridesmaids live in Chicago, the other half are scattered around the country (I live in Boston). My mom lives in FL, grandparents are in MD & UT, everyone is everywhere, so it was never possible to have a lot of them come to a shower for me.
So my friends and I had a shower/bachelorette weekend in Chicago, and it was a lot of fun- I think that's all I am going to do, if I did one at home, it'd just be me & my mom, lol!
I had one thrown by my mom's friends in michigan, where my parents live but I have never lived. Mom's friends from my hometown and MIL friends from her new city (where my husband never lived) also offered and my MOH mentioned it at one point - I told all of these last 3 no. I don't particularly like the whole shower thing, its awkward to have a party that is so much about presents. I only did the first one because I knew it meant a lot to my mom and I am happy I did - her friends are great and I know it made my mom feel good. I felt bad turning down the others (well not the one from my MOH, I am sure she was happy!), but I just didn't feel comfortable with it! The bachelorette, however,I was all about!!
I had two showers, one thrown by my aunts in Indiana and one thrown by now-husband's sister in Missouri. I almost had a third shower (Jack and Jill or couples) thrown by our friends where we live, but that didn't pan out.
I had one for all my family and family friends it was hosted by two of my Mom's good friends. Then I had one at work hosted by my work girls!
So far I haven't had any, but I will have at least 1. My BM's are going to throw something together, and I already told them I have no problem helping them plan it. We may do it at my house cuz we have a pool and a nice deck, and we'll probably make all the food cuz we love to cook. I can't wait!
I know I am having one. It never really occurred to me to have more than one (although I think it is wonderful to have that many people who love you and want to throw one for you). It just made me think reading about showers being thrown by say your mother's friends. Are all of them invited to the wedding or do people have showers thrown for them by people not invited to the wedding?
I didn't have any! I was moving from Atlanta to SF so it just got too crazy to organize anything. My closets girlfriends live all over US & Asia, making it even harder too.
I had one, thrown by my grandma, mom, and godmother. My MIL was supposed to technically help host it, but she decided to not pay her half, so I would not consider her one of the hostesses.
I hit 3 but I'm only having 2! One for 'housewares' and one for lingerie. I just don't feel comfortable opening lingerie in front of his grandma! :)
As far as I know, I am having two. One is near where I live (so cal) with local people invited and one in my hometown (central cal) with some relatives invited. This way, my MOH doesn't have to host too many people at once and those who live far away (central and nor cal) don't have to come down twice in one year. Usually the girls at work throw baby showers, but not sure if I will get a work shower seeing as how I am not really inviting anyone from work.
My first and biggest shower is in about a month and I'm so excited!
I'm having three against my own will, haha. My MOH is throwing one where we live for most of our guests (mostly college-aged) and it will be a "Jack & Jill" joint shower with a luau theme.
Then my mother wants to host one in my hometown for family and church members.
Finally, my future sis & mother in law are throwing one in my FH's hometown for their side of the family and church members.
I think it's a little much but none of them are budging and think I should just be happy with all the gifts I'll be receiving. Bleh. I guess it's best for the guests since the 3 towns are hours apart and we really can't combine any of them because of the distances...
I am so lucky! My wonderful MOH (cousin) & aunt are throwing me a shower for my dad's & stepmom's sides of the family & my friends. Then, my great aunt is throwing me a shower for my mom's and stepdad's sides of the family & my mom's friends. Finally, my fiance's aunt is throwing me a shower for his family & his mom's friends. I'm really surprised & honored by all this attention, but I'm really looking forward to hanging out with all the women I love (and getting to know his family better, since I've only met some of them once).
I think I'm having two. My FMIL is throwing a tea party for me in April with her friends and FI's family, and I think my aunts are throwing another one for my family and my mom's friends.
I'm having two and I feel so lucky. I had my first one this past weekend and it was so much fun to have so many friends and family members together with everybody just happy and supportive. It was a great way to re-focus on the upcoming marriage instead of all the nitpicky wedding details.
