So, I have probably tried on 100 dresses (and thats a low estimate) and this is what it has come down to: the Maggie Sottero Janessa, the Maggie Sottero Jovi, and this fluffy Christina Wu (although I think I've almost eliminated it bc one of my maids says it looks like a prom dress... and I'm pretty sure she's right).
I am SO indecisive - about even the most trivial things, so of course when it comes to this, what I consider probably the most important wedding decision, I'm LOST.
About me:
I reeeeeallly want something memorable and original. I want people to remember something about my dress, other than that it was pretty. I take fashion risks everyday so I definitely want to be edgy (but not whacky or slutty) on my big day. In other words, I don't want a "safe" dress.
Janessa is beautiful. The billows in the back are unique. The gold color I would get it in is original... but other than that I fear it may be a little safe.
Jovi is edgy in that I have huge hips and its a pretty bold move to wear something hip hugging. The beading is extra special and the train is super long... both very good things.
The Christina Wu is ruffly (i lovvve ruffles) and memorable... but maybe to an immature/cheesey extent.
My wedding is 6 months away so basically I should have decided already... so this is urgent. Tell me what y'all think!! Which one is most memorable/risky/original? <3 <3 <3
The order in the pics is Janessa on the model, then Victoriana on me (bc the salon didnt have Janessa and they're the same thing from waist down), then Jovi, then Christina.
The Victoriana is gorgeous on you! Also, it is more flattering than the others.
I like the Janessa the best. The Jovi is really neat, and you totally work it! I just love the Janessa, and you would look fabulous in that as well!
I prefer the first 2, but that's me. You have to go with the one that you love. By the way...Jovi was my dress! It's amazing! My hips are my large too, but Jovi really emphasized my waist and photographed well I think. I got tons of compliments and am way happy with my decision.
Are you going to kill me if I say I don't think these dresses are edgy?
When I think edgy, I think something a bit more modern and daring. These are beautiful dresses, but they just look ornate, not edgy, to me. Granted, I prefer a more modern look, though I am doing full body ruffles, just in a modern cut. I think what you are more looking for is a showstopper ornate dress, if this is what you have picked, not an edgy, really different one.
I say this only so you will clarify in your mind what you want. I think ornate and edgy are often really different.
I don't care for the first dress too much. Jovi looks fantastic on you and is a beautiful, memorable dress as well. You don't look hippy in it at all. And the Christina Wu looks like the Pnina Tornai's I keep seeing on TV, it's definitely memorable but I think all those layers of tulle inevitably makes every girl look shorter and thicker than they are. I'd definitely go with the Jovi if I were you.
I have to say I agree with Monitajb, i think these seem ornate but not what I would consider edgy. That being said, I think they all look great on you, but I like Jovi on you the best. I think the Christina one comes in as being the most different..
I agree with monitajb -- I don't find either of the first 2 edgy. I think they are dramatic because of the shape and the detail, but not necessarily "edgy"--which makes me think "something I haven't seen before". The 3rd I believe is the edgiest b/c of the way the corset is. I don't think it's promlike--I think its more princess-like. All 3 are beautiful on your body, but I don't know that they are really pushing the envelope (if that is what you are trying to do).
I think the Jovi is stunning on you. I'm not sure that any of these are particularly "edgy," but I definitely think the Jovi is memorable. You have to go with what YOU love, though, and it sounds like you're unsure. Take a couple more weeks to keep looking and you might still find something you love more or realize that one of these is the winner! Don't get rushed into a decision that you'll regret later, you still have time at 6 months out.
I like Jovi the best on you but the Christina Wu is the most edgy and memorable and I don't think it looks prom like at all!
I love the Janessa and think the embellishments on the pickups and the color make it the most unique of the 3
I think y'all are TOTALLY right that none of these are really edgy... which is probably part of the reason that I'm still so hesitant. My best friend really understands me and what I want and she says that what I want isn't edgy, it's a showstopper. I don't really know how to verbalize what I want I guess. I think there is something showstopper-esque and kind of bold about a girl with big hips wearing something like the Jovi... but its boldness ends right there. I don't really think there is anything bold about the Janessa either. Its just really hard to find an edgy wedding gown... they're all so safe. I tried one on that I liked with like a two foot bow on the knee... but it didn't strike me as pushing the envelope. I wear bold stuff everyday... so I guess I do want a bold dress. If I get the Jovi I would probably wear a birdcage veil at the ceremony and a huge (like 5 inch) bow at the reception (I wear them almost everyday in my hair) which may spice things up. Thank y'all SO MUCH for your comments and keep them coming! <3
Jovi out of those, I think it looks great w/ your figure. I liked the ruffle on the last dress, but it was too vampy I think.
I love the Jovi, It looks fabulous on you! You rock those hips girl!
If you haven't found something you absolutely love, then keep looking. Otherwise design your own and have it custom made by a local seamstress.
I am not liking the puffy embellishments going on in the first one's skirt and I do not like the corset of the 3rd... never have liked that look for a wedding gown. I think the second is perfect for you! It fits you like a glove and has those memorable aspects that work very well in a gorgeous wedding gown!
I personally think the Jovi looks fabulous on you!
And here is my 2 cents on the dress search issue...take it or leave it, haha: I wouldn't get too caught up on getting an "edgy" dress just because you think that you should be edgy. YOU are going to be what makes the dress...the dress shouldn't outshine you ;) Sometimes with some of the more "out there" dresses I've seen, I kind of feel like the attention would be drawn to the dress rather than the bride. Now, this isn't to say that you wouldn't look fabulous in an "edgy" dress...I'm a fan of being different! But, if you find something that looks absolutely beautiful on you and you like it...don't fret too much about if it is making the right statement! And, I think that the Jovi dress does make some fabulous statements with you - the shape looks great on your body...and I'm sure everyone would be admiring your gorgeous figure! Good luck with your shopping!
To be perfectally honest i dont think none are what you are looking for
They all look good on you, but i just think that you want something else. Not everyone has "the one" moment..
But you should totally go for one with the shape of Jovi, you are rocking it! And remember you can always go risky by wearing accessories.
So if you love ruffles and you want something a bit different & dramatic, but don't love any of the ones you posted, definitely check out Pronovias. Here are some that MAY meet your criteria...but maybe you even want MORE (PS. if you really love one of the ones you posted go for it!!! Don't worry that it doesn't meet some definition of edgy! If it's beautiful, it's beautiful!!)

And if bows are your thing....how about this?? (can't remember if this was Pronovias or Sottero)

Moneypenny - I already called every bridal salon in my state and asked about the Galante after I saw you rocking the crap out of it. It looked AMAZING on you, but I've already told you that like ten times. lol. The nearest one to try on is like 4 hours away. I think your dress would be my ideal. It is more bold than the Jovi. I'm thinking of driving the 4 hours to try it on. The one with the bow is PRECIOUS! I'm "googling" for it now.
i am in the same boat! i've been to so many bridal salons and tried on sooooo many dresses!
i love Jovi the best. i think you look great in it!
I may be in the minority here, but I love the Christina Wu on you. So light and fluffy and pretty!
I voted the one you like (christina wu's) because it makes you look taller and skinnier
I voted for the Jovi because it makes you look sexy and classic. You have an amazing body just the right curves in all the right areas.
She forgot to tell everyone she cried when she put Janessa on, and it isnt necessarily safe. The color she wants is bold! plus it has rosettes to match the bridesmaid dresses!
Hey mom just had a good point, the bird cage veil looks a lot better with taffeta dresses (janessa) vs the satin fabric of the Jovi
Vanesa did you make a wedding bee account just so you could tell the world to vote for the Janessa? lol. Love you bff. <3
Honestly, I really think the Janessa is the most risky honestly. The Jovi is the most flattering on your body. And the Christina looks like the inside of a duvet.
