Finance and I and pretty non-traditional and are planning on eloping or just going down to City Hall on our big day. I always thought I would still wear a wedding dress/gown and when I brought it up with FI he asked my why I wouldn’t want a really nice dress that I could wear again? He is really supportive in whatever decision I make – (he said that if I really wanted to wear a wedding dress I should do that) however he really got me thinking about the whole dress situation…
Are there any bees out there who didn’t wear a big white dress on their day? I need help putting this into perspective. What are your thoughts bees?

In your situation, I would take what money you are going to spend on a wedding dress and buy a designer dress to wear again! But if you want a gown…that’s great too!

I’m having a similar style wedding, and I thought that i’d just get a nice dress, but I went wedding dress shopping just to confirm that it wasn’t what I wanted. Because it’s basically your one shot at a wedding dress, and you don’t want to look back and regret passing up that opportunity if it was more important to you than you thought. I ended up getting a wedding dress, because I could tell when I put mine on that I still wanted that. But I feel like trying on the dresses will tell you what you should do!

Lisasaurusrex: I might be doing the same thing. I already have the wedding gown so will likely be wearing it. Is it strange to wear it to the courthouse though? my parents and maybe his mom would be there. I might have a traditional reception after but that would be the only public thing.

Prettysmile40: I don’t think it’s strange. 🙂 You’re getting married! Totally valid to wear a wedding dress, no matter the guest count. 🙂

I might not wear a “wedding” dress, but it would sure as hell still be white. I think it’s classic, and something to still make it feel like a “wedding” but with your own spin on it.
