It’s a bit weird for me. We got pregnant on my second cycle, with the ‘flashy’ (i.e. high fertility) smiley face, but I NEVER got a solid (i.e. peak fertility) smiley face. My first cycle I had a flashy SF for over a week, so I figured my hormones were all over the place and I never actually ovulated. The second cycle it was similar (although I think I was ‘high fertility’ for fewer days) and so I figured my hormones hadn’t normalised yet (it was only my second cycle since coming off the contraceptive implant). You can imagine, therefore, how surprised I was to get the BFP 3 weeks later! Now at nearly 21 weeks and loving it.

Daisylovex3:  Is that a solid or flashing smiley? If it’s flashing, you haven’t hit your peak yet. I used those for the 10 months we were trying, and did get pregnant. They always caught my surge, however I had 2 months with false positives. Luckily I knew my usual cycle length, so I kept testing knowing they showed up way earlier than normal, and got a second solid smiley in the normal range both months. I have found that if you are not very precise with only having it in your…stream…for 3 seconds, you run the risk of oversaturating, smearing the test results, and getting a false positive. Therefore I don’t think they’re good for newbies who may not know their cycle all that well. Also, you are supposed to use those with your first morning urine, NOT afternoon or evening, so your results could be wrong. When in doubt, BD 😉

Daisylovex3:  I highly recommend reading all the directions in the box. The CB digital is very different than the regular ovulation kits in that it tracks each day’s hormone level which is why you’re supposed to use FMU only. I think it takes two days for the solid smiley to go away, so if I were you, I would just BD, but then once that smiley disappears, start testing again only with FMU. If you never see another solid smiley, then your first one was most likely accurate.

Daisylovex3:  The solid smiley doesn’t disappear for 48 hours. You have to wait for it to go away then you can test again first thing in the morning. It’s all in the directions.

I was having long, irregular cycles and got two months of false positives. Gave up on OPK’s and charted and just tried to dtd every other day during fertile window. I got bfp that way. I think they are probably very accurate if you have regular cycles though. Good luck : )

Daisylovex3:  No prob! I read the directions like 7 times when I first started using them. It is seriously confusing, and I didn’t want to screw up!

I disagree with the FMU *only* thing, as the directions that come with mine state “You can test *any* time of day, but it should be at about the same time each day (many women find it most convenient first thing in the morning). It is important that you have not urinated for at least 4 hours before testing, and you should avoid excessive fluid intake before testing.” As long as you have a pretty regular schedule and your pee isn’t watered down, it sounds like you’re good to go.

I just looked at the pic again and see that my kit looks different than yours, although it is a Clearblue Digital Ovulation Test that shows smileys or empty circles as well….hm….maybe they changed the design at some point.

i had the same confusion! you have the clearblue advanced not the regular ones. I used the regular ones and got my bfp the first cycle trying. now that we are trying for our second, i grabbed the advanced kit by accident and i find it more confusing, i hate it lol. we’re in cycle two trying so not sure how quick we’ll be to get pregnant with these.

Daisylovex3:  Since this is your first day after the smiley, it has no hormone level to compare it to. Therefore, it will not be a smiley. I would keep testing for a few days and if don’t get another solid smiley, then the first one was probably accurate. What day are you on and what is your usual cycle length?

Last time I got a false solid smiley, I started retesting again, got a blank circle for two days and then a solid smiley the next day. No matter what, I would BD at least every other day this week!
