Can I just say that everyone's honeymoons sound AMAZING! We had a mini-moon in state, and while it was lovely, these fun destinations are making me drool. What a fun board! I'm interested in what other people have to say.

Destination: Road trip from Los Angeles up thru Napa and down through Yosemite ( we are leaving in January)

Resort: little B&B's, generic hotels we can use our points on. Our big Splurge is the Awahnee at Yosemite, but we are also staying at the Madonna Inn, Dr. Wilkinsons in Napa and Deetjens in Big Sur. I CAN'T WAIT!

What kind of room? All kinds, mostly standard rooms, although I made a point to tell all of them that we are on our honeymoon.

How many days? 2 weeks! our longest vacation together ever!

How much will it cost you? Not quite sure yet, because we used hotel points at some of the places it differs but most of the rooms average between $150-200 a night.

    peachypear    8/2/08   Portland, OR

    Destination: Greece (Athens, Santorini, Crete)

    Resort:

Athens: Central Hotel and Omiros Hotel (CH is more stylish but the staff is snobbish, OH was more reasonably price with friendly staff, but plain decor)

Santorini: Artemis Villas (highly recommend. Stay in Imerovigli, not in Fira or Oia)

Crete: Amphora Hotel in Chania (highly recommend if you can get one of their best rooms - the cheaper ones are so-so, but the staff is nice and you get a discount at the restaurant below, which is pretty tasty. All the hotels on the old harbor seemed nice)

What kind of room? Standard, moderately priced

    How many days? 18

How much did it cost you? ~$8000, including $3200 for airfare. We splurged on food.

Where are you traveling from? PDX

We had a blast! Don't stay in Athens more than two days, and do it at the end. Santorini was nice, but spendy and kind of boring. The beaches aren't very good, and neither is most of the food. Visiting wineries, sunbathing, and watching the sunset is about all there is to do - unless you want to buy crappy souvenirs. Go, but only for about 4 days. We loved Chania, and Crete overall!!! The beaches are fantastic, the food is great, everything is much less expensive, and the sunsets are just as great. We wished we had more time to explore the island.

    Wiglet    7/25/09   Chicago, IL

    Destination: Alaska

Resort: Probably a Holland America cruise

What kind of room? The nicest we can afford (likely a normal stateroom with a balcony)

How many days? Hopefully 10, but so far we can only find 7-day cruises

How much will it cost you? Right now, looks like it'll be about $4-5k. We're saving because the boats leave from Seattle and Vancouver so we don't have to fly anywhere.

Where are you travelling from? Seattle (where our wedding is) or Vancouver (where his family lives)

Can I just say, lilneko69, that I'm SO JEALOUS?!?!? You're having the dream honeymoon. Do you mind if I ask how you financed it? Did you have any connections to keep the cost down, or was part of it a gift from family/friends?

All of you ladies are doing incredible things with your hubbies!

How much will it cost you?  We used points for our flight, so we just paid for the room and got it at 25% off (check their website often!) So I think it ended up costing close to 3K...but not positive.

Where are you travelling from? San Jose, CA (left Sept 21, 2008)

    lilneko69    August 2, 2008!   New York, NY

Hey Wiglet! I don't mind at all. To be honest, we saved for about 2.5 years to pay for the wedding/HM. We probably paid for the flight and hotel using our savings and then all the expenditures on the HM, we used gift money from the wedding (like food, souvenirs, massages, scuba diving, other excursions).

It was A LOT of fun and the destination is breathtakingly gorgeous. It's definitely a once-in-a-lifetime trip (at least for us!) and I would say if you can afford it for like a 10 year anniversary trip, DO IT! And definitely get the overwater bungalow :o)

*With our wedding so close to Christmas, we aren't able to go on a full-fledged vacation (I love Christmas and I have to be home!). Neither of us have been to NYC, so we thought that would be a fun place to minimoon. We haven't definitely decided on a hotel, so anyone in NYC: I'm open to suggestions. Proximity to Times Square is important!

my fiance's parents were wonderful and decided to treat us to the whole honeymoon, so i have no idea how much it will cost! the hotels are really spiffy, and we both can't wait to explore! :-)
