I just realized after the fact that I may have messed up the order of speeches at our wedding. I hope I didn’t offend anyone.
So who gives the first toast?
The Father of the Bride or the Best Man? Or does it matter which of them goes first?

My parents are hosting the recpetion, so my dad will welcome everyone and give the first speech.

I don’t think it really matters, but every wedding i’ve been to went FOB, Best Man, Maid of Honor. 🙂

Whoever wants to. There is no law as to who goes first. Tons of people skip speeches altogether as well.

I don’t think it matters. We didn’t do parent toasts at our wedding b/c my parents technically didn’t host the wedding since we did. But we didn’t toast, either. We just had the best man and maid of honor give a quick speech. When the bride’s parents pay, I’ve seen the father of the bride give a speech but i’ve only seen that at a few weddings so i say it doesn’t matter the order!

@Selene- good point, i have been to 1 wedding where the priest (or pastor) said a prayer and that was the only “speech” the whole reception. No rules to this I think.

In our case, we are hosting, so far we are planning on the Bridesmaid or Best Man going first.
