My latest wedding obsession are pomanders. I’m debating if I should attempt to DIY or purchase them from a seller on Etsy. The seller on Etsy has 6 inch silk flower pomanders with coordinating ribbon in a combo color(one pomander two colors) of my wedding colors in a lot of ten at $18 a pop. I just don’t know if attempting to make them myself would end up being cheaper than $18 in cost and frustration. I’m not DIY inclined at all! lol What’s the average price of DIY pomander? Thanks!!

@WestieGirl: $18.00 for a lot of ten? If so, that makes them $1.80 each. For me, $1.80 is a pittance compared to time and frustration.

@GonnaBeMrsE: Oh no It’s $180 for the ten. So it’s $18 each pomander. I”m headed to the craft stores this weekend to do some pricing. Joanns, Michael’s and AC Moore are all near me. Also going to check out the Dollar Store.

Oh my! Yeah, for $180.00 you could make more than enough on your own. I used to make these with fresh flowers… I recommend pipe cleaners instead of floral wire… the stick much, much better. The floral wire is often too thin and flimsy to really stick. You can move stuff around if you use the styrofoam balls. Oh, and attach ribbon first. Good luck! Lets see em when they are done!

I would diy..grab the girls and some wine. It shouldn’t be too bad, 180$ is pricey.

I ended up getting them on Etsy and got them for under $100 from a different seller than the one I was originally looking at. 🙂

Awesome that you found them for less!

These are my DIY Poms, made of coffee filters… I dont remember where the tutorial is though:( I’m sorry. but basically its coffee filters, folded into a small triangle with the fluffy side “out” then you staple the corners.
Next cut a circle out of paper (buy a circle punch if you don’t have one, use a 50%off coupon) I think my circle was about 3 inches or so. Staple your choice of ribbon onto the paper circle.
Next glue (you can use any kind of glue, I just used cheap school glue) and start gluing the stapled side onto the circle on the outside, staying as uniform as you can then glue a second layer of coffee filters on top of the other ones making sure it looks uniform… this sounds so much harder than it actually is.
So here was my cost for then.
Coffee Filters – Dollar Tree $1.00 (but I didn’t use all 160 of them so in reality the filters for this costed less…
Paper Punch – Round… On hand.. FREE
Ribbon- On hand… free, (but you can get ribbon for 3/1.00 at joannes or michaels and they have LOTS of colors to choose from)
Cardstock (paper) – on hand…
It really didn’t take long to make either, like maybe a couple of hours.
but this is what it turned out like.
Let me know if you have any questions. But really, I am too cheap to buy anything. My WHOLE Vow Renewal is totally DIY.
