I've heard olive oil works, but I would check and see if the hairball medicine they have for rabbits and cats is okay, too--maybe that would actually break it down better? My persians have some long hair and cough up some nasty things when they don't get their chicken flavored hairball goo every week.
Also, we have a furminator and they make them for dogs--they pull SO much hair off them. It has really cut down on the hairball problem in our house.

Our 8 yr old poochie, Buddy, is constantly trying to clear his throat because of all the hair he consumes everyday from licking himself.
Does anyone have any natural or medicinal remedies to help our big guy out? It's unnerving but sad to hear him try to clear his throat.
