- Wedding: September 2011
Bees, I need to borrow a bit of your wisdom! I may be an extremely petite bride by US standard; 5′ only. I used to be 89lbs but has since packed on weight so now I’m 92lbs. I don’t typically do weight training though, only cardio so my arms and stomach are flabby 😀
Based on my personal opinion, ballgowns are the best for my body type. Of course everybody has different opinion though, so lately I’ve been a bit confused. Not only that, I’m having both a traditional catholic ceremony AND then later a destination wedding in Bali. So I need a dress with enough ‘wow’ factor but not too much for beach garden/poolside party.
FYI, in all this fitting, I wore a 4.5″ heel. So it’s like 5’5″ for the height.
#1: Vera Wang Hayley — a ruffled ballgown.
This is the dress I love most in person. The detailing are gorgeous, and it fits my personality: Delicate but dramatic.
Problem: my trusted BM kinda dislike this dress on me, since the bottom sticks out and she thinks the dress is just way too big for me 😛 Of course it’s all up to me to decide though, but my own concern is…the dress will probably look just~ a tiny bit ridiculous posed in Bali’s black beach.
#2: Vera Wang Harlow — a traditional ballgown.
With my flair for drama, this dress is too plain. But it’s a classic. May fare better in both catholic church and semi-outdoor reception.
#3: Vera Wang Diana — a swirling full a-line dress (almost ballgown, actually)
This is a beautiful dress. Very popular. One of my BM love this the most on me, but personally I just don’t think the dress fits my personality all that well. From another BM’s point of view, she thinks that this dress is kinda elongating my body without being too busy but still offers some level of drama.
I have another concern about this dress though, a lot of times with other brides the layers looks chunky and structured instead of swirly and frothy. Some people had told me that it’s just a matter of styling though, you should steam it layer by layer in order for it to stick out and swirls. Oh well. Anyone can testify to this?
#4: Carol Hannah Sweet Bay — full a-line with handkerchief skirt.
This is the dress that I love online but since I live in Singapore, there’s no way I can try this on. Based on the other dress fitting and my hunches, I think maybe this will fit though. Church and Bali appropriate. BMs agree. What do you think?
That’s it! Sorry for the long rant though 🙁
