I am having an “Old Hollywood” themed wedding. I’m completely obsessed with Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and the feel of that era so I am wanting to have a very vintage/glamourous wedding with lots of pearls/bling and full pale pink roses. I found a rental company near my house that has a really vintage looking popcorn machines and I was thinking it might be cute to have it set up during the reception maybe near the candy buffet. Plus I found that you can order popcorn bags in any color and have them personalized so I think that would be really cute too. My fiance’ said he thinks it is tacky to have popcorn at a wedding, no one would want popcorn at a wedding and that he does not want the wedding to smell like popcorn. Give me your thoughts. I would really like to know the public opinion on this.

Full disclosure: I LOVE popcorn, anytime anywhere. I think this would be cute and fit the theme. If I was at your wedding, I would totally get some popcorn because the scent is irresistable. I think popcorn smells like fun, entertainment, and reminds me of the movies. That being said, your Fiance has a point – it is a very scented item to have present, so you need to make sure you love that smell, and that whoever’s operating the machine doesn’t burn it!
If my Fiance was against it, I would nix it… but if his reason was purely that he thinks it’s tacky..I would try to persuade him that it’s not when you have the vintage machine and cute bags! Show your man pictures. My Fiance always changes his mind 180 after he sees the pics of what I’m talking about. I guess when you don’t read wedding blogs and magazines some of these ideas seem random.

@nunyabiznezfoo: I’d crash your wedding for some gourmet popcorn in cute custom bags.

I like the idea.
It’s a treat 99% of people like.
I’m only a fan if it’s covered in dill pickle seasoning lol but I love the smell and I know people love it!

So, one of the items in our Out of Town bag was Garrett’s popcorn (a Chicago thing) and it was, by far, the favorite item in the Out of Town bag (moreso than the booze!) And I love popcorn.
But popcorn really does have a smell…..and I can see the OP’s FI’s point. OP – maybe have pre-packaged popcorn in the popcorn machine? So that you can offer the treat without having your wedding smell like a movie theater?

I think this is a great idea.

I think it would be fun! And totally fits the theme! Now I want carmel corn… or kettle corn… or something slathered in butter and salt.

I like popcorn but honestly a wedding to me does not scream popcorn. Movies, carnivals, zoo’s do. Weddings no….

I love this idea! I would totally love some popcorn at a more laid-back wedding. It fits your theme really well. My Fiance says that popcorn is delicious and not tacky at all.

LOVE popcorn. Do it! Popcorn is appropriate any time, anywhere.

you could have popcorn by giving away kettle corn, chocolate covered popcorn, or other flavored popcorn? then it is slightly more upscale than plain, and you don’t have to worry about burning it, or that fake butter smell. full disclosure, I love popcorn but FH hates the butter smell!
