We are having a movie-themed wedding so of course, we are going to have popcorn! At first, I was going with a popcorn bar but decided that it might not be a good idea after talking to some of my family. They said that it would probably be better if it was already pre-packaged for the guests and they would just grab it. No falling in line, no mess, etc.
We will be buying at least four different flavors: cheese and caramel coated, white cheddar, caramel apple, white chocolate pretzel (just different ones… haven’t decided on specific flavors yet).
Since I am leaning towards pre-packaging the popcorn anyway, I had an idea.
We are having a buffet dinner which means I don’t need to have a meal choice on the RSVP. What if I give the guests an option of their popcorn flavor(s) on the RSVP instead? They can have a choice of two or three and we will just layer them in the bag. The tag or sticker on the container will have their name and table assignment (so it can act as an escort card as well). It would help me estimate how much of each flavored popcorn I should buy instead of wasting my money on flavors the guests might not like and just throw away.
Is this a bad idea? I would have the tags already ready and organized. It is just a matter of putting the popcorn flavors together correctly with the help of my FI and some family/friends.
What do you guys think? Please vote and offer your suggestions as well.

So far, popcorn bar is still winning…

I think the bar sounds fun and would work fine.
If you do not do the bar, how about providing a “sampler” of all 4 flavors? You could provide the packaging you show (so cute!) but put all the flavors in there, separating them. I would want to try all of them and not have to pick one. Yummy!

I love the popcorn idea, but putting flavor options on the rsvp might confuse people. I would wonder if you were not serving dinner as well. I think it would be fun to scoop it into the bags myself, but I think prepackaged would be both cheaper and easier. You’d have to get scoops and containers for a choose your own, and people would be more likely to miss it, leaving you with lots of extra popcorn.
This might not be a very good idea, but could you just choose two kinds for each bag (without getting your guests preference) and they could always trade? I would be excited for whatever kind I got, but if I wanted different it would be easy to switch. Popcorn sounds fun and I love how it ties in to your movie theme!

I think asking your guests for their preffered flavors sounds like a make work project for you. If someone doesn’t like any of the flavors, I guarantee another guest will be happy to take the leftover bag.

We are also doing popcorn as a favor, I am going to be ordering this:
and doing a kind of “popcorn bar” setup where people can choose their own flavor.
I love the idea of also making them an escort card.

I think the popcorn buffet is a great idea and you should do that. Not everyone is going to run right up to the popcorn buffet, they will probably do it throughout the evening and there won’t be a long line. Also I like being able to pick my own flavor and how much of each I’d want.

Thank you, bees 🙂 Keep the suggestions coming!

I love the idea of the popcorn bar, but if you didnt want to do that i would have them prepackaged with no flavor choice. Just make them even amounts (like 8 people per table, 4 popcorn flavors, 2 people at the table recieve 1 flavor) then people can switch and try others. or a sampler pack would be neat even though alit more work

I wouldn’t put it on the RSVP because I think it’s more fun when the favor has some surprise to it, and a popcorn bar would be a very pleasant surprise!

I think you could still use it as an escort card, but I wouldn’t give them choices on flavors. Either make each one a sampler pack, pick one standardized flavor, or just let the guests trade amongst themselves. You’re asking for a headache if you let them choose flavors on an RSVP card, I think.

Alright, sounds like the idea of having it on the RSVP isn’t too popular 🙂 I’ll leave it off then but I do think I will pre-package them instead of having a popcorn bar… Still a bit unsure =/ I guess I have time to decide.

I think that you can use the popcorn containers as escort cards, and still have the guests use the popcorn bar. 🙂 The popcorn bar sounds liek a ton of fun, to be honest. XD But you can still have peoples names on the containers to use as escort cards (particularly if the popcorn is saved as your midnight snack)

Super cute idea!
You could use those cute popcorn contains as your escort cards (names on tags) and just add something like “pop on over to the bar to fill me up!” on the tag.

What about doing empty bags/boxes as in your pic for escort cards, and then the people can fill them with flavors of their choice from the popcorn bar to take home?
ETA: I see SuprMe had the same idea. And the saying is cute, so people don’t get confused and think you just gave them an empty bag lol
