Just got an email from email@example.com wanting me to take the dress I have for sale off the classifieds because he wants it. The odd part is that he said he will be sending a certified check for twice the asking price and wants my name, address and phone number so he can arrange for pick up. I have sold things on Craig’s List and have gotten an email similar to this that was sited as a probable scam. Anyone else out there have a similar experience? I’m just going to ignore any other correspondence from this person. Who would offer twice the amount for a used item when you can get it new for less? Something’s not right here.

Yea…that definitely sounds like a scam. I hate that…especially on craigslist when you’re trying to sell something.

I say if something feels sketchy, it probably is. And that sounds sketchy.

@Skeppo: That’s usually a scam. That’s happened to me a few times and even on here. I posted a ring I wanted to sell and said in the ad local pick up online, but I still got two emails asking for my paypal information and about shipping.
I clearly told them that it was local pick up only and never got a reply back.
Becareful it’s more common then not. They might actually send you the check, but when you go to cash it the check will bounce. I’ve seen this a lot. I work for a credit union.
