Some of the RX prenatals have an added laxative/softener since all the added iron can make some women constipated.  Double check with your dr to see if that is your issue!

Yeah, I’m betting your new Rx has a softener/laxative in it.  I was never irregular until my second trimester.  I absolutely NEEDED that stuff then.

sounds like the other girls pegged it.  me, I couldn’t even take Flintstone vitamins with both my pregnancies.  it made me seriously ill.  I also was anemic for both during the last trimester (which is normal) and couldn’t take vitamins.

good luck!!!!  and it sounds like you’ve got a really great dr, too!!!

I’ve heard that nausea and constipation are common with prescription prenatals so I plan on using OTC vitamins instead. Can anyone recommend an OTC prenatal vitamin?

@hmaxwell77: They’re all pretty much the same, just different labels.  I was told to use children’s flintstone vitamins when the prenatals made me sick (very VERY sick).

they didn’t even work, so I was told to stay away from them.  the iron suppliment was no better, so, no vitamins for me during my pregnancy.

@hmaxwell77:  Before I switched to RX prenatals(I take Citranatal Assure), I took One a Day Women’s Prenatal + DHA which is available at every drugstore.  I didn’t have any issues with either OTC or RX, but I always make sure I take them with a small meal or some food in my stomach.  That said, I had been taking a regular Centrum for Women multi-vitamin for many months at the same time every day with lunch and “worked my way up”, so to speak, to the prenatal vitamins, which may have helped.  If you’re afraid of side effects and are still in the TTC phase, maybe take the prenatal vitamin with a meal every other day and take a plain folic acid supplement on the days in between.

I don’t take these but have a friend who does and loves them like candy–Gummy Prenates!

I usually drink a glass of orange juice with mine and have no problems, they are the one a day brand.  I read that somewhere on this site.
