It’s good you talked to him about it! I hope it works out for you soon. A lot of guys assume every girl wants The Biggest Most Expensive Ring Possible. I told my guy “bigger isn’t always better” and he was flabbergasted! Shocked! Ya just gotta clarify sometimes 😉

It’s crazy how much RETAIL rings cost. The markup is more than you think, over the price of the metals and stones.

We had our ring custom done with a jeweler and the ring I wanted was close to a Birks Blue one I’d seen in the store.

The one in the store was $8349 which I thought was OUTRAGEOUS! But this is the price that most men shopping are looking at. You see the same things online at Tiffany, Birks, etc…

Getting a ring hand made or custom made means that you’re paying an individual. Not for rights, and licensing, and storefront and shipping metals and stones and creating the rings en mass. None. Of. It.

The ring I ended up creating in the end had even more diamonds and I’d added his birthstone to add a touch of him to it as well.

Guess how much that cost? Less than $3000.

Etsy is a great place to find great and talented people who will work with you just as a local jeweler would. You are paying them for materials, their time, and a small markup to help them make a profit.

Good on you for talking to him about it! I hope you get exactly what you hoped for!

peachykeener:  It’s a good look. He’ll see that the sooner he gets it the better cuz it’s cheaper too (to get it sooner than later)
