Detox! I'm not doing it with the intention of losing weight; I just need to really flush my system of all the crap. I managed to put on 5 lbs and I just feel so blah.
Going to hit the gym extra hard this week. I know the fat won't melt off but something about sweating makes me feel better about myself.
Ugh, I'm right there with you. There is still so much food in this house - I'm waiting until the new year and then throwing away whatever is left and detoxing, like catlady said. Then going back on my regular healthy eating diet (low sugar, high protein and vegetable) and working out. The sugar has my skin messed up AND I gained 10 lbs! Ugh...
How do you detox? I've never done it...despite my LA upbringing, hahaha. I've fasted before, but never detoxed. Do you just drink protein-y veggie smoothies or something? TOTALLY ignorant, ha.
Lol! I just cut out all sugar and drink nothing but water, water, water! I basically just eat clean. I have a problem with sugar... I crave it, but it messes with my stomach (causes bloat) and skin (and my moods) and I totally indulged over the holidays! I have to get it out of my system!
I'm going to start keeping track of what I eat in a notebook. I think just writing it down (not necessarily counting calories and such) helps me eat less and make healthier choices. It's never fun to write that I had, let's see, a huge block of brie, 7 Reese miniature peanut butter cups, baklava... yeah.
We're also going to hit the gym more regularly, at least three times a week of 30 minutes cardio and some strength training each day.
I'm sorry you're feeling so down about your holiday weight gain. My best advice is to try not to beat up on yourself too much. You can't go back, all you can do is make some positive changes and get back on track.
I'm not a big Detoxer, well, at least in any kind of perscribed way. I usually just try to make sure I'm eating a lot of fresh veggies and fruit, whole grains (fiber, fiber, fiber!) and drinking as much water as I can. I find that a lot of times when I gain weight on the holidays, it's due to water weight because I'm not used to eating as much salty stuff.
Another thing that gets me feeling better is exercize. At the holidays, I tend to skip the gym more often than normal, which contributes to feeling crappy. Getting my butt in gear and moving and sweating some of those toxins out always helps me feel good.
Just stay positive and work hard and you can get back on track! :)
Thanks Jessie! That cheered me up a bit
Speaking of exercise, this is my first winter in a place that has, yknow, SNOW sometimes. How do you prepare for running?
I usually like to run around my neighborhood, or in Central Park, but now its getting cold and I hear January and February can be quite harsh. Do you throw on tons and tons of layers, even though you'll be running and naturally will feel hot and sweaty? Does everyone just run on treadmills during a snowy winter? Again, IGNORANT. Growing up in sunny Cali prepares you for nuthin'. Man, lookin' at my posts, itsa wonder I've stayed trim for so long (til now). I don't know jack, bwahahaha.
@jduck: I'm definitely going to start a food journal, too!
Lol, I'm such a wuss (and I live in Ga, where it NEVER snows, lol), that I run indoors on my Wii Fit! Lotta help I am!
I'm starting WW on the 1st. For real. I've GOT to get it together...
@ galacticpony-I'm kind of a wuss and I usually rock the treadmill when it's yucky outside. However, one of my best friends is a marathoner (aka a lot more hard core than me) and she runs outside all winter. The key is layers--just wear stuff that you can take off as you get warmer. Also, you might want to look into some athletic gear that wicks away sweat, some of that stuff can be more comfortable as a layer, because you don't feel as icky as you get warm.
This year wasn't too bad for me actually! But when I start to feel a little bloated I usually drink lots of water. I also sip on a few cups of tea in the morning before I eat anything.
TEA! I miss tea. I used to drink at least 3 cups a morning of green tea. I think I'll definitely be cutting out any cocktails for awhile. Wine and beer, ok, but dem margaritas are killing me.

Begeezus, I think I've gained 10lbs during this holiday. What's everyone's plan to take it off? I've never really gained weight during the holidays before for some reason, but this year, I went a lil' nutso with the cakes, cookies, and alcohol because bf was gone and I was stressed (I usually stay away from sugary carby things day-to-day). I'm feeling pretty down on myself, and, worst of all, feeling very very unattractive...meaning, I'm not stoked for sex, which is ridiculously lame and uncharacteristic of me. I'm looking to see what everyone's doing so I can have a plan. My mother tells me since I put the weight on so quickly, it should come off quickly too...uh...yeah, and the moon's made of cheese, mom. I don't believe her. Thoughts? If there's another thread already about this, sorry!
