I didn’t hand cancel my first batch (the testers) and they looked fine. Honestly– my caligraphy wasn’t smudged and they got their fine. Hand canceling is great, but trust me, no one notices!

@nmcbrid3:  I made invitations for my friend’s shower that had a button glued on the front & a ribbon tied around that. I was worried about the button getting messed up so I went to 4 different post offices trying to get them to hand cancel but they wouldn’t. Every single invitation got there fine… except the bride’s! Her’s had a small round hole in the envelope and the button was missing completely. I’m guessing the button pressed through the envelope and was ripped off? I was pretty disappointed, but one out of 35 isn’t that bad I guess.

@nmcbrid3:  I didn’t even look into hand cancelling my invites because I figured the post office dudes are “adult” enough to know what to do with my invites. My envelopes had a lump in them from the twine I wrapped around the invites along with a tag attached to the twine, and also some washi tape on the enclosure flat (just for decoration) and I saw a FI’s dad’s invite that he got in the mail and there was just a pen slash through the stamp. I was somewhat worried that the machines would eat them and peel off my washi tape, but the one envelope I saw was perfectly fine and it travelled an entire state away. I’m sure yours will be fine!

@texasrandi:  “there was just a pen slash through the stamp.” that means it was hand-cancelled. You have good post office dudes Smile

@AllieBee12:  Oh, I thought they had an actual ink stamp that they would stamp it with. But either way, yea, I trusted them 🙂

@texasrandi  I think the OP is more upset because hand cancelling looks nicer than the machine canceled ones. We got ours hand cancelled but had to pay for it!
