I did one, mainly because I was unhappy that i didnt get more photos with just my husband and because i didnt get one decent family photo ( the kids fell asleep after the ceremony, so not really the photogratphers fault on that one) But I did my own make up on the wedding so it was easy to re-create the look, I did have issues with re doing the hair but I managed to pull it together! It was so much fun too! no stress just us and the kids having fun all dressed up! Totally worth it and If i could have gone back i would have done it like that in the first place.

I’m going to do one too, and I’m in the same boat trying to figure out if I want to shell out more $$$ for my hairstylist to recreate my wedding day hairdo (I did my own makeup, so that’s not a problem). At this point, I’m leaning more towards just doing my hair myself because the veil will cover most of it up anyway. I’d rather spend the money on getting a bouquet like the one I had at my wedding, because my flowers kicked serious butt and the photographer didn’t get any portraits of me with it. *sob*

I think if you are comfortable doing your own makeup (as in, you wear makeup every day are used to applying it) then there’s absolutely no need to hire somebody. And unless you’re just dead set on it, everything doesn’t have to be exactly the same as it was at your wedding. One of my sister had her bridal portraits done a couple of months before her wedding, and her hair and bouquet are very different in the pictures than they were the day of but I seriously did not notice until my mom made a comment about it several YEARS later. (And I was actually in her wedding!)

I did my own hair because I went with a much more relaxed style for our day after shoot, but I did get my MUA to do my eye make-up. I just stopped by her studio for that piece. She makes my eyes look better than I ever could, so it was worth the money to me.

Also, I agree with the PP who said that your wedding day and day after looks don’t have to be identical (unless you want them to be). My wedding day look was formal with a hint of dramatic, but my day after look was casual and cozy. I did totally different accessories, shoes, etc.
