It’s so common to hear about how expensive weddings can be, so I thought it would be nice to see what everyone got for a really good deal.
Here are mine:
- $125 for 150 custom invitation suites which included the invitation card and envelope, hotel info card, rsvp card and envelope, and thank you cards and envelopes. My dad was traveling to Vietnam for vacation and offered to get our invitations done there since it’s so cheap, and we wouldn’t have to pay to get them shipped either. We actually don’t need that many invitations so we could’ve paid less, but my dad figured it wouldn’t hurt to get a bunch of extras.
- $500 for my wedding dress. Thank you David’s Bridal!

-Our invitations cost about $250 all-in. I designed, printed (invitation card plus 4 inserts), cut and assembled all 85 of them. I also did the envelope calligraphy. We ordered the pocketfold and envelopes, though.
-Our reception decor/centrepieces cost about $250 total (12 guest tables, head table, seating chart). We upcycled wine bottles into hurrican lanterns and had FFIL cut some birchwood slabs for them to rest on, and some birch votive candle holders. The rest is lots of floating candles and vases from IKEA!
-My veil is technically free since the boutique that’s doing my alterations was running a promo. $250 in alterations gets your a $250 veil for free! Although the alterations are costing MUCH more than $250 lol
-Our flowers were relatively inexpensive. I DIY’d wood flower bouts for the guys (FI is a carpenter), which cost about $35 total, and the entirety of the flower order comes out to about $700.
-Officiant: freeeee! He’s a retired priest and family friend
-Hair/makeup: Free as well. My brother’s girlfriend is an esthetician and is taking care of my treatments as a gift, but is also giving my bridesmaids/FMIL a great deal on a mani/pedi and makeup
-My jewelry: My earrings were a little more than I wanted to pay ($60), but I made a matching bracelet for…like $18. Then I made my girls necklaces with the clasps I had left over for about $3 each.
-Groom/smen attire: The rentals will cost about $80 each (as opposed to almost $200 for a full tux rental) and we got all their ties on clearance at The Bay for like $15 each

Free uplighting! It pays to know the coordinator at your Reception site!
Decreased cost for Premium Open Bar! Again…it helps to know your coordinator!

- Wedding: August 2013 - Rocky Mountains USA
Dress was $120 from Macy’s 🙂
My flowers were basically free… my dad grew them all in his garden and we didn’t include the bulb/seed costs in our tally, and we had a bazillion mason jars from canning.
My husband’s awesome band (with a fill-in drummer) played for the cost of gas and hotel rooms… about $500, and they usually charge $2500-3000 for a wedding. The rest of our music (ceremony, cocktail hour) was free thanks to talented friends and family.

My Save the Date postcards for our destination wedding were FREEE! I designed them myself (with some help from Weddingchicks.com) and my printer I use with my work found out they were wedding invite/STDs and was like, “No, I’m waiving the fees, this is our wedding gift to you for being such a great client and bringing us business.”
So besides the postage which wasn’t too bad, they were free 🙂

We got our $2500 venue for $1500 (last summer’s price)! My family used to be the owner’s neighbors, so I got super lucky and he gave me a deal.
Also got my $400 David’s Bridal dress for $280! Yay sales and coupons!

Print them yourself invitations from Michael’s, on sale. We paid more for postage than for our invitations, and they were perfect. My veil was also from Michael’s. Less than $10 with a 20% off coupon.
