Yes. The good news is that you can order US stamps online directly from the US post office on their website, http://www.usps.gov. They will mail them to you for a small fee.

I am pretty sure that letters mailed in the US require a US stamp.  According to the USPS website it currently costs 0.69 US to send a first-class letter from the US to Canada, this goes up to 0.72 US with the rate increase on May 12.  I don’t know if you can order from the USPS website if you have a Canadian address – I have been told that you can’t order stamps from the Canadian postal service to be delivered to the US.  But if not, I’m sure you can eBay them, or Zazzle.  You can also just let your US guests provide their own stamps – although they will have to be smart enough to realize that a regular first-class stamp won’t work.

Oh no! In that case, I am gonna have to ask my mom to bring .03 cent stamps with her when she comes to visit next month. Thanks for the info, suzanno.

We love the USPS.  (Not.)  Let us know if USPS will mail you stamps in Canada, as I am interested.

You know,  I was just thinking about this the other day.  We are in Canada,  but 2 invites are going to the US, 1 to Scotland and 1 to Belgium.   It might be easier to leave off the stamps on those RSVP envelopes. I want to make it as easy as possible for them to send the reply back but I don’t know where I would get postage for just those ones.

Not sure if you were asking in a practical way, or in an etiquette question way.

As the other posters have said, you do need US stamps to mail from the US.

On the other hand, etiquette-wise, you aren’t required to put foreign stamps on your RSVPs.  (Though in the strictest sense, you aren’t supposed to have envelopes and pre-printed requred cards at all )

I wouldn’t worry about ordering stamps especially for the Americans, particularly since we’re in the middle of a rate change.  If some people can’t shell out the few cents for a stamp themselves, just give them a call and ask
